There has been a lot of anger and disappointment among the ranks of employees in the City of South Lake Tahoe over the last few years as they went through budget cuts, staff cuts, benefit cuts and a lack of raises.
"Our City Council is in a unique position," said Mayor Cole. "We understand the disappointment of our employees."
In recognition of the City of South Lake Tahoe employees, Mayor Hal Cole declared Friday, October 10 as Public Employee Recognition Day. He told the crowd of employees gathered at Friday's Special City Council Meeting that he and the Council extend their appreciation to the service the employees have given to the community. He read a proclamation that will be hung on the wall of City Hall.
He also announced that the first Tuesday of each October in the future will be "Public Employee Recognition Day."
As a thank you to the city employees, Cole said they will all be getting an administrative leave day (a day off with pay) during the next year.
