Lawrence "Larry" David Dunivent 1936 - 2017

Lawrence "Larry" David Dunivent, 81, of South Lake Tahoe, Calif., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017. He was born in Orange, Calif. to Harold David and Vada Alida Dunivent.

He was an accomplished football player and track & field athlete in high school, and held the United States record for the 440 relay. After high school he moved to Bakersfield and became a "rough-necker" in the oil fields, then a fire fighter for Kern County. At 26-years-old in 1962, Larry became one of the youngest battalion chiefs in California. In 1976 he wanted a change and moved to Lake Tahoe where he managed his real estate properties and worked in the casino industry. Shortly after that, his girlfriend and future wife joined him.

The economic slump of the late 1980s forced the family to move to Las Vegas where the city was quickly growing and he could make more money to support the family. He worked hard for 20 years in Vegas before he could afford to retire back in Lake Tahoe, which was his lifelong dream. He loved challenges. He remodeled/ expanded/ flipped several homes without having any construction training, he fixed his own vehicles, and he would rival anyone in a political debate. He always loved Lake Tahoe… so much that he was nicknamed "Lawrence of the Lake."

Larry was the loving father of four children, Roy Dunivent, Rod Dunivent, David Dunivent & Denali Marlane Dunivent, and the stepfather of Vance Ulrich and Vic Ulrich. He is survived by his wife, Marlane Ulrich-Dunivent, children and sister, Sharon Pettit.
