Tahoe Douglas Fire and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a distress call Thursday evening after a sailor was unable to make it back to shore with the high winds on Lake Tahoe.
The unidentified man called for help about 5:15 p.m. when he was about one-quarter mile off the shore at Cave Rock. Winds were stronger than he thought and was unable to make it to the Cave Rock boat ramp where he put the 10-12 foot boat in.
Tahoe Douglas Fire was able to help the man get to Cedarbrook, north of Cave Rock where he moored the boat. There were no injuries.
The Coast Guard is currently the only 24/7 year-round search and rescue response team on Lake Tahoe. They are based in Tahoe City. Tahoe Douglas Fire still had a boat on the lake and are also able to use jet skis in emergencies.
