Principal's Office: Zephyr Cove Elementary

The 2013-14 school year is off to a great start! We have had much excitement since August 19th with our first and hopefully, annual Round Hill Pines Beach Bash which was held on September 8th. Festivities included hot dogs and hamburgers, a raffle, and a silent auction. Families were able to get acquainted and re-acquainted and the kids were still enjoying the long summer sun. Thanks to our awesome Parent-Teacher Club, we are well on our way to funding many academic opportunities for enrichment and intervention as well as materials and resources for our teachers. Our annual Walk-A-Thon held on Count Day which was September 13th brought in $8,000 with top winners walking in excess of 80 laps!

We welcomed a new teacher to our MIGHTY TEAM. Hannah Ouellette, a graduate of SNC is teaching a combination class of 2nd and 3rd graders. Hannah is a long-time resident of SLT, and the product of Whittell High School. We are excited that she is with us.

Brenda Capshaw, has left the “traditional” classroom at ZCES in order to teach PE, ART/Music, 5th and 6th grade band, and Gifted and Talented Education. Obviously, Mrs. Capshaw wears many hats! We are excited to have someone as creative and enthusiastic as she to teach our students in these important areas of education.

ZCES has been designated as a Four Star School according to the Nevada Performance Framework. What this means is that we have been measured both in student proficiency and student growth and we have reduced the achievement gap for special populations such as Special Education students or those learning English as a Second language. 16% of the State’s schools earned a Four Star rating and we are very proud of the hard work our teachers and students have put forth in this achievement.

We are looking forward to a fabulous school year with plenty of student growth and achievement. For more information about ZCES, check out our website at www.dcsd.k12.nv.us/zces/
