Did you see it? Object flies across sky, observed from San Diego to Carson City

A mysterious light that streaked across the night sky Saturday, visible as far away as Nevada and Arizona, was a Trident missile test-fired by the Navy, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

KOLO reports it has spoken with the Orange County Sheriff's Office and they said the light in the sky was confirmed through the John Wayne Airport tower to be a Naval test fire off the coast. No further details.

A handful of people have contacted Carson City and Lyon County dispatch saying they observed something fly overhead in the skies tonight. Carson City dispatch said they received one call, and Lyon County dispatch also reportedly were contacted by people asking about the object in the sky at around 6 tonight.
The object was also seen by a Carson City sheriff's officer who responded to dispatch that he had seen the object after it was observed by callers asking Lyon County dispatch. The caller to Carson City dispatch described the object as looking like a missile.

The photo here was sent to KOLO News Now by reader Jeff Miller that shows a light with a fairly bright tail. KOLO's Kendra Kostelecky said they were making calls to agencies as well to determine what it is.

People responding to a popular Dayton area Facebook site, Dayton Peeps, reportedly saw it and were also asking what it was.

Carson City Airport Manager Tim Rowe said he was unaware of any scheduled rocket launch. He gave us the phone number for Lockheed Martin Flight Services. Carson Now spoke with a representative there who said they've received inquiries from several pilots wondering the same thing. He said his staff was not briefed on any particular rocket launch over the West Coast and asked that we check back.

San Francisco's Channel 5 KPIX also reports people in the Bay Area observing the object and has included video. Go here for the story.

We are checking on where this came from and will update when we get more information.
