Charter Communications installer by day, electronic producer by night. South Lake Tahoe local Jose Meza is following his dream to make it big in the competitive world of DJs, beats, mixes and electronic music.
With a stage name of Manny Maze, the 22-year-old South Lake Tahoe native has been perfecting his talent and mastering the making of the tracks he hopes will make him well known in the electronic music world.
This area of music is unknown to me except for what I read and see on the SnowGlobe lineup. I will sound like my mother when I say I thought it was just a bunch of noise, but have now been shown through Meza's music that I was wrong.
"I focus more on making music than being a DJ," said Meza. "What I do is different than being a rapper DJ and scratching records." He creates beats and mixes lyrics into the music he creates electronically though he did get his start in a rap group making hip hop beats for the Indigo label.
Meza's parents, Claudia Augilar and Jose Ramon Meza, owned the La Sopresa Bakery and Restaurant while he grew up (located behind the DMV in South Lake Tahoe). The younger Meza was "a social guy who got good grades" as a student in SLT.
While at South Tahoe High, instructor Bob Grant showed him how to create beats using a MAC computer. Now Meza gets to pay it forward by being a Senior Project mentor in the area of electronic production for STHS senior Dakota Lynch.
SnowGlobe is having a contest for undiscovered talent. The entrants getting the most votes from the public will be submitted to a panel of judges. Everyone has a chance to vote for "Manny Maze" by visiting this site on line. In order for the vote to count, people have to listen and then vote (just voting will work against an artist).
After talking with the animated and energetic Meza, I truly hope he wins a spot on the SnowGlobe stage.
