SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Barton Health’s surgery department offers state-of-the-art technology with the recent acquisition of a $2.1 million da Vinci Xi Surgical System. The da Vinci Xi System features the latest in robotic-assisted surgery that is minimally invasive and can reduce a patient’s time in the hospital. Barton offers robotic surgery procedures in the areas of colorectal, gynecology, and general surgery.
“We are proud to offer advanced technology for our patients,” said Dr. Clint Purvance, President & CEO at Barton Health. “As a leader in our community’s health, Barton invests heavily in making the latest in medical technology available, without having to travel long distances for expert care.”
With da Vinci, the surgeon is completely in control of the robotic-assisted procedure, which translates hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. The da Vinci Xi System’s 3D-HD vision provides a highly magnified view, virtually extending the surgeon’s eyes and hands into the patient. While robotic and non-robotic surgeries each have advantages in medical care, patients report experiencing shorter procedure times, less blood loss, and decreased scarring with robotic surgery procedures.
“We provide robotic and non-robotic surgery options for patients, and a staff of specialized surgeons to meet the needs of our community,” said Dr. Kimberly Evans, surgeon and Trauma Department Medical Director at Barton Health. “Offering state-of-the-art medical technology in the Tahoe Basin expands our ability to deliver advanced care for residents and visitors alike.”
Key features include a new overhead instrument arm designed to virtually replicate the surgeon’s anatomical access, new endoscope digital architecture that creates a simpler, more compact design with improved vision definition and clarity, smaller, thinner arms with newly designed joints that offer a greater range of motion than ever before, and longer instrument shafts designed to expand surgeons’ operative reach.
