Snow in Lake Tahoe forecast for the next week

Ski resorts, local businesses, visitors and residents welcomed several inches of snow during Tuesday's storm, lending hope that the winter will be a good one for both outdoor sports and the South Lake Tahoe economy.

Heavenly Mountain Resort is reports 8" of new snow and they will have almost half of their runs open Wednesday. Sierra-at-Tahoe received 9" at the base, 10" at the summit and will have five lifts and 13 trails open. Over at Kirkwood, they received 16" of new snow and have four of their 15 lifts open.

More snow is in the forecast today with a chance of 1" to 3" of fresh snow.

It will be a cold one, so dress appropriately. The temperatures at lake level will be well below freezing for the next several days.

Today - Snow showers. High near 26. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Tonight - Scattered snow showers, mainly before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Thanksgiving Day - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 26. East wind 5 to 10 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Thursday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. East wind around 10 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Friday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly after 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 27. East wind 5 to 10 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Saturday - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 29. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Sunday - A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 36.
