Couple rescued after being stuck in the Sierras for two days reunited with family

A Yuba City couple missing in the Sierra Nevada for two days were found late Monday afternoon by a search and rescue team who followed tracks they saw on a U.S. Forest Service road.

Susan and Rory Holloter had gone for a drive in the Wentworth Springs Road area of El Dorado County at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 26 in their Dodge Ramcharger. A storm hit the area that afternoon and the couple became stuck.

The Holloters were able to get a text out on Sunday at 12:40 p.m., saying they were stuck in snow.

A search of the area around Wentworth Springs and Ice House roads was initiated, then called at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, then resumed at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. They were found at about 4:00 p.m. that afternoon and transported out to safety. After being checked out by medical personnel they were reunited with family at 6:45 p.m.

Susan Holloter said they did fairly well but she was starting to panic on Monday. The couple's plan was to start burning their truck's tires on Tuesday if not found by then.

Approximately 30 volunteers from El Dorado, Placer, Amador and Douglas Counties and the California Highway Patrol helped in the search for the Holloters.

Being prepared as you travel through the Sierras. After becoming stuck, the Holloters used the sleeping bags they had in their vehicle, along with some food and water they had. El Dorado County Sheriff Sgt. Tasha Thompson said they also intermittently used the heater in their truck.
