Investigation leads to return of custom bar top to brewery in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/02/2020 - 4:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Finding a truck with stolen license plates on Tuesday has led to the recovery of a custom made bar top from a South Lake Tahoe brewery.
On June 30, 2020, deputies from El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) got an LPR (License Plate Reader) hit on a truck in Meyers.
The truck was traveling west on US50 and deputies found the truck near Ice House Road and attempted a traffic stop. The driver turned onto a rocky dirt road, stopped by the American River and took off on foot.
Missing retired fire battalion chief reunited with family
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/11/2020 - 5:18pm11:25 p.m. Update: Merlin Turner was found Thursday and has been reunited with his family. According to Fox40 in Sacramento, a family friend said between the stress brought on by COVID-19 and his battle with post-traumatic stress disorder, Turner needed some respite.
Social media was instrumental in finding Turner. Someone reported seeing him in Knights Landing and another person saw him eating a burger at their diner. The family friend says Turner didn’t even realize how many days had gone by or that he was on the news being reported as missing.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Motorists can expect the eastbound and westbound turn lanes from U.S. Highway 50 at Bedford Avenue and the eastbound off-ramps at Broadway and Schnell School Road to be closed from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday for the annual Placerville Christmas Parade.

For those wondering about the old Caltrans traffic camera at the Y: it is being replaced and when received there will be a lane closure coordinated for installation.
The camera at the new roundabout in Meyers can be rotated to analyze traffic needs and will not be aimed just at the roundabout for the time being.

Letter: Agencies alert public on what they're doing to alleviate traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe

A public meeting was held on Friday night and that story will be carried on Saturday.
El Dorado County fires prompt evacuations
Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/01/2018 - 6:45pm8:00 p.m. update: Omega Fire is 10 percent contained, reported at 80 acres with 1 destroyed residence and two damaged residences. The evacuation center has been relocated to Northside Elementary School, 860 Cave Valley Road, Cool, Calif.
The Bumper Fire is 80 percent contained and it has burned 67 acres according to CalFire.

Three fires started in El Dorado County Wednesday, prompting law enforcement to evacuate residents from several streets in the areas as firefighters fought the fire from both the ground and the air.

Table Fire now 65% contained - 465 acres burned

Over the next 12 hours crews will continue to mop up perimeter of fire and begin rehab of fire lines and fire area.

The Table Fire burning near Ice House Road west of Lake Tahoe remains at 420 acres burned and 25 percent contained. Fire growth due to easterly winds that are expected to continue Sunday.
No road closures but be aware of fire traffic on the Wrights Lake tie road.
Table Fire west of Lake Tahoe grows to 250 acres
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/13/2017 - 3:38pmThe Table Fire burning west of Lake Tahoe, three miles northeast of Ice House Reservoir, is now at 250 acres and 20 percent contained.
Crews worked on line preparation on the east, west, and south sides of the fire yesterday. The north direct line is completed. They started tactical burning operations on the northeast corner to remove fuel between the prepared line and the fire.
Table Fire west of Lake Tahoe now at 110 acres, 15% contained
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/12/2017 - 1:43pmThe Table Fire burning west of Lake Tahoe near Ice House Reservoir has now burned 110 acres and firefighters have it 15 percent contained.
Fire officials from the U.S. Forest Service say the updated acreage (up from Wednesday's 50 acres) is mostly due to digitally mapping the fire line. The fire is in remote country and not threatening any structures. The fire is in a sheltered location so the predicted winds on Saturday are not expected to have a significant effect.
Another fire starts up in El Dorado County

There was a new fire start on Tuesday across the river from Bridal Veil Falls in El Dorado County.
Dubbed the "Ice Fire" it is burning about two miles west of the Ice House Road/White Meadows Road intersection.
Multiple air tankers and helicopters worked the fire immediately. There were some voluntary evacuations in place but they have since been lifted.

Wind fuels lightning caused fire west of Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/09/2017 - 6:30pm9:30AM Update 10/11 - Fire was active last night as it slowly backed down the mountain towards the indirect check lines. The fire is in remote country and not threatening any structures.
So far, 50 acres have burned and it is 10 percent contained.
The smoke from the Table fire is visible from Highway 50 and the Tahoe Basin. This is a lightning start from a previous storm that Sunday's high wind event activated.
Note: the smoke blanketing the Placerville and Pollock Pines areas is not from the local fires.
Highway 50 at Kyburz closed due to mudslide

SMUD planning to expand cloud seeding over the Sierra
Submitted by paula on Thu, 06/01/2017 - 12:28amThe Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is planning to more than double their current cloud seeding program over the American River watershed from the current 190 square miles to 444 square miles.
Since 1968, SMUD has been involved in the practice of cloud seeding in El Dorado, Amador, and Placer counties to benefit electricity generation in the Upper American River Project (UARP) in Eldorado National Forest.
Sacramento area carjacking suspect causes Hwy 50 closure near Silver Fork
Submitted by paula on Tue, 03/21/2017 - 5:58pmHighway 50 near Silver Fork was closed Tuesday morning as law enforcement apprehended a carjacking suspect who also sideswiped a vehicle along Highway 50.
According to CHP in Placerville, a man driving eastbound on Highway 50 east of Ice House Road noticed a car on the right shoulder of the road with a flat tire. As he passed the person in the stopped car they threw an unidentified object at his vehicle. ,
Road closures and chain controls in place as heavy snow hits South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/20/2017 - 12:51pm3:40 p.m. update: It is taking three hours from the Y to Meyers, so if you're on the road you may want to consider going inside for the rest of the day. The snow is not letting up and there is a lot more to come.
Traffic heading west from South Lake Tahoe is still slow going, and there have been several weather and traffic relate incidents on US50 west of Lake Tahoe. At this time, emergency vehicles are at the scene of a three-car accident near Kyburz. The road has reopened but may need to close again to remove one of the cars.
Rocks and mud still cover US50 in Nevada and California; Other routes to Lake Tahoe open
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/13/2017 - 8:36pmRoadwork to clear mud and rocks from Highway 50 continues on both sides of the state line of Lake Tahoe with no estimated reopening time released by either transportation agency.
Last week, five boulders fell onto the highway near Logan Creek on the east side of the lake, prompting Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to close the road due to an unstable hillside. Progress is being made on the stretch of road that connects South Lake Tahoe to Carson City according to Meg Ragonese of NDOT. She said the "monolithic-size boulders" are being removed.
Multiple mudslides on Highway 50; Reopening delayed until Monday at earliest
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/12/2017 - 10:19am7:00 p.m. update - Caltrans is advising motorists that U.S. Highway 50 in the Kyburz area will remain closed at least through Monday night and potentially longer due to multiple mud slides.
Caltrans and an emergency contractor are working on three slides in a 12-mile area, and several smaller slides are also active near the highway.
Highway 50 between Placerville and South Lake Tahoe may open by Sunday evening

Caltrans says Highway 50 at Ice House Road is expected to be closed until 6:00 a.m. Sunday, February 12. This is an estimate and will depend on time it will take to clear the massive slide of mud and boulders.
Once open the road will be one-way controlled traffic.
On the North Shore, I80 will open to traffic in both directions at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Expect heavy traffic.
