One dead, four injured, and five cars damaged in crashes at SR88 and Mottsville Lane

Two separate accidents at the intersection of SR88 and Mottsville Lane on Friday night left one woman dead and three injured.

Gardnerville resident Janis Hill, 64, died when her BMW entered the intersection at the same time as a Ford Taurus driven by 22-year-old Holly Ducoing of Carson City. The two cars collided and then hit a Honda SUV driven by Minden resident Robin Owens, 64, who was stopped at the intersection.

Hill had been traveling eastbound on Waterloo Lane and Ducoing was southbound on SR88 approaching the intersection with Mottsville Lane.

Ducoing was transported to a local hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. Owens was not injured during the course of the crash.

Impairment is unknown at this time.

In the day's first accident at 1:45 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash between a white Chevy Silverado pickup and a gray Volkswagen Jetta collided. Details indicate that 37-year-old Gardnerville resident Joshua Rose was traveling southbound in the Chevy on SR88 approaching Mottsville Lane. The Jetta, occupied by 46-year-old Jason Stewart, the driver, and passenger 48-year-old Kimberly Chuzas, both out of Temecula Calif., was headed westbound on Mottsville Lane approaching the intersection with SR88.

The accident is still under investigation and it is unknown at this time which vehicle went through a red light at the intersection. The front end of the Jetta struck the left side of the Chevy Pickup. Both vehicles were pushed into the southwest corner of the intersection. The Chevy pickup struck a light pole and power box located in the southwest corner of the intersection. The Volkswagen came to rest in a residential yard located just south of the intersection.

Due to injuries sustained in the crash, Rose and Chuzas were transported to Renown via Care Flight. Stewart was transported to Renown by Ambulance. All with non-life threatening injuries.

All occupants involved were wearing their seatbelts.

Impairment is suspected in the crash and a blood draw from Joshua Rose was obtained.

Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT) is conducting both investigations.
