South Lake Tahoe kick-off meeting for City’s new Climate Action Plan

Event Date:
December 11, 2019 - 6:00pm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to a meeting on the City’s first-ever Climate Action Plan on Wednesday, December 11 from 6:00 p.m.to 7:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers at the airport.

In April 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council signed a proclamation to move the City’s entire electrical grid to clean energy by 2032, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 80 percent below baseline by 2040.

There is a 100 percent renewable energy committee and now the public is invited to join the City as they move into the early stages of developing the Climate Action Plan (CAP) to help them meet their ambitious greenhouse emissions goals.

A long-term plan is necessary to outline strategies to reduce emissions as climate changes. In addition to reducing emissions, the strategies considered in the CAP can also provide community benefits by supporting local economic development, improving wildfire resilience, reducing air pollution, improving traffic conditions, and improving public health and quality of life.

As a part of the CAP development process, the City is holding a kick-off meeting as an opportunity for members of the South Tahoe community to learn more about what a CAP is and why the City is developing one. They will be discussing the results of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory that was completed last year, reviewing the emissions reduction targets set by City Council in 2017, and explaining the process moving forward. There will also be time for community members to ask questions and provide feedback.

All community embers are welcome to the meeting.

There will be refreshments.

South Lake Tahoe City Council Chambers are located at the airport, 1901 Lisa Maloff Way.
