Local riders and skiers headed to the slopes of Sierra-at-Tahoe for their opening day on Friday. The resort opened at noon following the recent storm that left more than 15 inches of fresh snow in the Sierra. Since early season conditions still exist, the resort will operate ten trails accessed by the Grandview Express and Easy Rider Express.
“We are excited to welcome skiers and riders back to Sierra-at-Tahoe, now that the winter season is officially underway,” said John Rice, general manager of Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort. “Mother Nature has opened the storm door, and with more snow in the forecast early next week, we’re prepared to open additional terrain as conditions permit.”
Sierra Resort accumulated 15 inches over the past 24 hours, which brings the total season snowfall to 40 inches. The National Weather Service forecast calls for another cold storm to move through the region early next week. As conditions permit, Sierra Resort will continue to open additional terrain. Sierra-at-Tahoe lift and trail status updates can be viewed here.
“Those who haven’t visited Sierra in some time are going to be pleased with the transformation. We’ve made significant investments in the last year to enhance the base area with the recent completion of the Solstice Plaza, and have implemented new learning programs and terrain that will make it easier than ever for those just starting out to build their skills,” Rice continued.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available daily for all ages. If booked online in advance, adults ages 13+ can learn to ski or ride for as little as $45, Sunday through Friday, non-holiday. Food and beverage outlets at the base area are now open daily as well.
Early season lift ticket rates are offered Friday, December 12th only at $45 for Adult, Young Adult and Senior, $35 for Super Seniors and $25 for Children at any Sierra-at-Tahoe ticket window. Lift tickets on Saturday, December 13th will be available at regular season afternoon rates.
