The unique and valuable habitat of the Upper Truckee in Meyers has been preserved through another California Tahoe Conservancy project at the site of the old Tahoe Pines Campground. The project opens public access to the river and will feature a picnic table or two, bike racks and informational kiosk.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - The 24th annual Lake Tahoe Summit has moved to a virtual format this year. U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada will be hosting the event that will feature Olympian David Wise as the keynote speaker.
Since the first Lake Tahoe Summit in 1997, the area’s congressional representatives have pledged to keep working together and with local, state, and private sector partners to restore Tahoe’s environment, improve forest health, and confront climate change.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe is a nominee in the “Best American Ski Destination” for Hemispheres Magazine inaugural Readers’ Choice Awards. Votes are being accepted in several different categories that have to do with vacations from the best beaches to the best cities for art.
They held a first round of voting in May to determine the finalists, and Lake Tahoe made that cut. Now, you can place your vote for the winners. You’ll have until July 1 to cast your ballot. Those voting can vote for one, a few, or all categories.

Local students among 650 graduates of Western Nevada College

Although Western Nevada College has delayed its commencement ceremony to honor its 2020 graduation class because of COVID-19, the college is proud to announce and congratulate its list of graduates.
Following the spring semester 2020, 650 students have graduated with 692 degrees and certificates. Eighteen of those were given to residents around Lake Tahoe.
Incline Village GID votes to ban smoking from all facilities

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - The Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) Board of Trustees voted unanimously to prohibit the use of any form of tobacco at all district-owned and operated facilities, including restrooms, spectator and concession areas.
Per Nevada statutes, marijuana and vaping use were already prohibited in all public spaces.
The move by the board was to "help protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents and guests of Incline Village and Crystal Bay."

John Russell Rice Jr. died peacefully at Carson Tahoe Medical Center in Carson City, Nevada on February 23, 2020, from complications of a recently diagnosed medical condition, surrounded by family. He was 62.
John is preceded in death by his parents: father John Russell Rice Sr. of Fremont, Calif.; mother Elizabeth LaVerne Rice-Killion of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and his grandson Mason Allen Geist of Gardnerville, NV.

South Lake Tahoe's Jamie Anderson has never missed a podium in the past 14 years of competing in the X Games, and this year is no different.
The 29-year-old queen of slopestyle took the gold on Saturday in Women's Snowboard Slopestyle at X Games Aspen 2020, giving her a 16th medal, the most for a woman in the history of X Games winter or summer events. Seven of those are gold and five silver.

STATELINE, Nev. - The public is invited to take part in one of several meetings over the next two weeks that will go over NV Energy's Natural Disaster Protection Plan (NDPP).
The public is invited to take part as the utility shares key elements of their draft NDPP and solicit feedback before it is filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada by March 1, 2020.
Senate Bill 329 addresses how the utilities will mitigate and respond to wildfires, severe storms and other natural disaster risks in service territories.

LTCC leases South Lake Tahoe property for student housing

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is taking a first, big step toward helping address the lack of affordable student housing in the community by leasing a five-unit apartment building near Ski Run Blvd.
The college's trustees gave authority to school administration to sign a five-year lease with the owner of that apartment building during their meeting Tuesday evenings. The lease starts on July 2, 2019.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heading to the polls will soon have a different meaning to the voters of South Lake Tahoe and the rest of California as the one-day voting period ends and initiation of voting centers begin.
With the passage of SB450, the 2016 Voter's Choice Act, 11-day and 4-day voting centers are planned to begin in 2020 after being started in 2018 with pilot centers in five counties: Madera, Nevada, Napa, Sacramento and San Mateo. El Dorado County will start vote centers in the 2020 election pending approval from the Board of Supervisors.

May 18, 2019 - 10:00am The Tahoe Climate Change Action Network will be hosting a community forum on forest health and forest/fuel management policies in the Lake Tahoe Basin on May 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Join your neighbors and local Natural Resources professionals in forest ecology, forest and fire sciences, and fuel management.
The forum will take place at the Lake Tahoe Community College's Aspen Room in South Lake Tahoe.

With the issues all day due to the snow storm in Lake Tahoe and the resulting closed businesses and schools, traffic and power problems, it's always great to take time out and enjoy our best friends.
