South Lake Tahoe bank robber faces long prison term after pleading guilty to 19 robberies

An Oakland, California man pleaded guilty to being a serial bank robber who committed 19 heists across the Bay Area and Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, between March 2018 and February 2019.
Duane Kurt Makela, 50, pleaded guilty in federal court in San Francisco Thursday to ten armed bank robberies, seven unarmed bank robberies, and two attempted bank robberies.
FBI searching for serial bank robber who hit two El Dorado County banks

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect tied to the robbery of four banks and the attempted robbery of another in recent months.
Two of those banks were in El Dorado Hills, and the others were in Davis, Yuba City, and Dixon:
- Friday, November 23, 2018, at approximately 1:55 p.m.
River City Bank located at 239 E Street in Davis
- Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at approximately 2:05 p.m.
U.S. Bank located at 903 Colusa Avenue in Yuba City
- Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at approximately 1:43 p.m.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department detectives arrested a local man on February 1 on a warrant out of Tracy, Calif.
"Bandaged Bandit" sought by FBI for four bank robberies

The man dubbed the "Bandaged Bandit" is being sought by the FBI in a string of armed bank robberies that started with the South Shore robbery of US Bank on June 29.
Three additional banks were robbed after the Stateline one.
Two banks in El Dorado Hills were robbed on July 1 and July 14, and another one in Folsom on July 15, all apparently by the same suspect who affixes bandages to his nose, chin and arms.

The investigation of Friday's bank robbery at the Al Tahoe branch of El Dorado Savings led to the identification of Gabriel Antonio Evans, 36, of South Lake Tahoe as the suspect.
El Dorado Hills bank robber appears to be same as South Shore suspect

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) is working on the strong possibility that a man who robbed the Chase Bank in El Dorado Hills on Friday is the same man who robbed the US Bank on Kingsbury Grade on Wednesday. Lt. Jim Byers of EDSO told South Tahoe Now that the moment the photo of the suspect came out, deputies in South Lake Tahoe saw the resemblance and notified him.
Bank robber known as 'Fedora Bandit' sentenced to 9 years in prison

David Griffith Osborne, 75, known as the "Fedora Bandit" for his lengthy string of bank robberies in northern California, Lake Tahoe and at least one in Carson City, was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for three counts of armed bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.
