South Lake Tahoe 8th grader makes bands on his 3D printer for nurses and other essential workers

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Besides at-home school and getting some outside exercise, an 8th grader from South Tahoe Middles School (STMS) has been making plastic bands on his 3D printer to help ease elastic band pressure on facemasks for healthcare staff and other essential workers.

South Lake Tahoe 5th grader honored for heroic efforts

A South Lake Tahoe 5th grader was honored Tuesday for his heroic efforts in helping to save a life earlier this year.

Gauge Patterson, who is also a Boy Scout, received the “Citizen’s Life Saving Award” from Mayor Wendy David for using the skills he learned at the “Stop the Bleed” training given by South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue on April 23.

Scouts give treats to their Hometown Heroes, Douglas County Sheriff's Office

Carson Valley Cub Scouts Pack 33 presented Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini with treats for the deputies on patrol, jail and investigative personnel.

“I am delighted that you all came by to see us and we want to thank you for all the hours of hard work that you did to bring us these treats for us," said Sheriff Pierini. "You are our heroes because you thought of us and did this for us.”

Scouting for Food to help those in need in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe Boy Scout Troop 594 is partnering with American Legion Post 795 for the 2017 Scouting for Food collection on Saturday, November 11.

Please bring your donated food items to the American Legion, 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to their Veteran's Day Ceremony which begins at 11:00 a.m.

Please join them as they help provide for those in need, and to also recognize those who have served in our Nation’s Armed Forces.

No glass containers or perishable food please.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Open House

During Fire Prevention Week each year, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue holds their Open House to highlight fire safety in the community as well as opening their doors for tours and activities.

Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., both SLTFR fire stations will be open to the public.

Station #1 is located at 1252 Ski Run Boulevard. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher and participate in CPR training. Find life safety info, tours, static displays of fire equipment as giveaways.

Boys Scouts host 4th annual Car and Truck Show in Carson City

In their 77th year of providing scouting opportunities to boys in the Carson City and Carson Valley area, Boy Scout Troop 33 is hosting their 4th annual Send A Scout to Camp Car and Truck Show on Saturday, August 12 at Fuji Park in Carson City from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Participants can either pre-register or sign up the day of the event. Cost is $40. Each participant will get a T-shirt, one lunch meal ticket, and a dash plaque.

Four local boys earn Eagle Scout award

Four local boys from Troop 468 recently received their Eagle Scout Awards; Hilton Atherton, III, Christopher Evans, Aubrey Felton and Quinn Kixmiller. All of them are recent George Whittell High School graduates who reached this lifetime goal with nearly 50 years of combined scouting experience.

Agencies and public work together to keep Lake Tahoe beaches clean

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority would like to thank all of our community members, visitors, businesses and agencies who have helped keep our Lake Tahoe beaches clean throughout a busy summer season. Debris on Lake Tahoe’s beaches affects everyone’s enjoyment of the lake, and trash and debris on the beaches and streets can easily find its way to the lake and adversely impact lake clarity, water quality and wildlife.
