Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club helping out Sierra House families
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/17/2018 - 11:03amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One hundred percent of the operations of Sierra House Elementary have now moved over to the Al Tahoe school site (where the Lake Tahoe Boys and Girls Club is also housed) until possibly mid-February. Due to the size a split schedule is in place to accommodate the students, with some students only attending in the morning, others only in the afternoon.
The Boys and Girls Club (Club) is assisting parents with that split schedule and in partnership with Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will be offering free programs and activities during the school day.

We survived the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and resorts that remain open this week and for the season continue to make snow and spin lifts. Kirkwood has scheduled Chair #6 – Cornice Express to offer top to bottom skiing & riding. Mammoth Mtn. & Mt Rose also open top to bottom. More snow predicted to come through with a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday.

Good morning Lake Tahoe skiers and riders. It's a beautiful Sunday FUnday for ending your Thanksgiving weekend! Kirkwood has three lifts and 15 trails open; Mammoth is open top to bottom with 12 lifts and 37 trails open; Squaw has Gold Coast open on the upper mountain; Mt. Rose is open top to bottom. Have fun and be safe! If you are departing the Lake Tahoe Basin, buckle up, drive safely and have patience with traffic.
Lanes of I-80 closed for project Sunday-Tuesday
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/26/2018 - 6:30pmCaltrans is alerting motorists to upcoming overnight lane closures on Interstate 80 east of Colfax due to continued construction work on the Truck Climbing Lane Project.
Motorists can expect alternating eastbound lanes closures between the Long Ravine Bridge and the Alpine (Secret Town Road) Overcrossing from 8:00 p.m. Sunday until 11:00 a.m. Monday and 6:00 p.m. Monday until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday for water blasting to remove temporary striping.
In addition, the eastbound #1 lane will remain closed until Tuesday when the water blasting has been completed.
Changes to South Lake Tahoe transit services
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/26/2018 - 11:43amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - As planned, the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is changing transit routes and schedules starting November 1, 2018.
As announced in August, TTD announced an increase of services to improve access to neighborhoods including Meyers, more frequent services on busy routes and reduction of routes not meeting required performance measures.
Two new electric school buses to be added to LTUSD fleet
Submitted by paula on Wed, 10/24/2018 - 8:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Does this bus look any different than your usual school bus? Well it is. The little turquoise bird above the door with the electric cord tells all. It is an all electric bus!
Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) received a grant earlier this year to purchase two electric school buses. Tuesday was the first test drive of the production vehicle and we expect a few more test drives this winter If all goes well LTUSD expects to have the two buses in service by next school year.
South Tahoe High homecoming festivities include parade and football games

South Tahoe High School has invited the community to attend their Homecoming festivities on October 12, 2018. All week long the students have been having theme days, all leading up to the big day.
The special day starts with the Homecoming Parade starting at 3:30 p.m. They leave the LTUSD bus garage on Al Tahoe Boulevard and make their way down Lake Tahoe Boulevard to the South Tahoe High School Viking Stadium.
This year's theme is "Music through the Decades."

Submitted by paula on Sun, 10/07/2018 - 11:14pmOn April 18, 2017 the South Lake Tahoe City Council unanimously passed a resolution to do two things: Power the South Lake Tahoe community with electricity provided from 100 percent renewable sources by 2032; and reduce community carbon emissions from baseline by at least 80 percent by 2040. The 100% Renewable Committee was formed to help the City accomplish these tasks.
It's Marathon Week in Lake Tahoe; Expect road closure October 14

Over 20 events will take place around Lake Tahoe during the three days of fun and festivities this year, the 23rd year of the Marathon. Over 2,500 family members and friends are also expected to travel to the lake to watch and enjoy the town.
Bicycle and pedestrian safety focus of new CHP campaign

The California Pedestrian and Bicyclist Enforcement and Education Project (CPBEEP) grant runs from October 1, 2018, through September 30, 2019. During this year-long statewide campaign, CHP officers will conduct enhanced enforcement activities and public education campaigns.
Lane closure Sunday night near Fanny Bridge
Submitted by paula on Fri, 09/21/2018 - 10:49pmNORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a lane closure near the Caltrans Maintenance Yard on SR 89 heading into Tahoe City from Truckee from 10 p.m. this Sunday, Sept. 23 to noon on Monday, Sept. 24. The construction contractor will be handling drainage work and underground utility work.
Traffic may back up along SR 28 into downtown Tahoe City.
Flaggers in the area have been advised to let school buses and public transportation (TART buses) to go through without having to wait upwards of 20 minutes as the rest of the vehicles can expect to be delayed.
CHP School bus safety enforcement operation in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/20/2018 - 10:15pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - California Highway Patrol officers will be riding on local school buses on September 24 during a state-wide school bus pedestrian safety enforcement operation.
Motorists across the state continue to disobey the law requiring them to stop for a school bus with its flashing red lights activated and stop arm extended. During a one-day survey in 2016 of 137 school districts in California, over 26,000 motorists failed to stop for a school bus that was stopped to load or unload pupils.
Douglas County wants resident input on VHRs

New shuttle and one-way traffic to help alleviate Apple Hill congestion

Weekend crowds are already heading to the farms, wineries and breweries from Placerville to Pollock Pines, but the thousands of cars that make the trip each week during the month of October have prompted transportation, farming, tourism, safety and County officials to work together to alleviate the weekend gridlock on area roads.
It's back to school for South Shore students

All school offices are open and available to help with registration and scheduling needs and to pick up schedules.
Ski and west shore buses on the transit hit list; service added to Meyers
Submitted by paula on Mon, 08/13/2018 - 2:12pmWith a goal of being sustainable, Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is changing the way they provide transit in Lake Tahoe starting November 1, 2018.
"This is a reboot, not an end," said Carl Hasty, TTD District Manager at the District's board meeting Friday. "We'll all feel some pain but it's not the end."
There will be some cut routes, reduced hours, elimination of winter shuttles along with an addition of service to Meyers. Buses will now operate 14 hours a day instead of the current 20 hours.

U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) will host the 22nd Annual Lake Tahoe Summit at Sand Harbor State Park in Incline Village, Nevada on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Beach and park operations will be closed until 1:00 p.m. that day.

$1.6M band-aid given to TTD for South Lake Tahoe bus service

Tahoe Beach Bash and Homebrew for Homeless this weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the past three years, the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless has held their Homebrew for the Homeless in the Carson Valley. This year they are moving the event to South Lake Tahoe and combining it with a family-friendly Tahoe Beach Bash on Saturday, July 28 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat.
