Caltrans is alerting motorists to upcoming overnight lane closures on Interstate 80 east of Colfax due to continued construction work on the Truck Climbing Lane Project.
Motorists can expect alternating eastbound lanes closures between the Long Ravine Bridge and the Alpine (Secret Town Road) Overcrossing from 8:00 p.m. Sunday until 11:00 a.m. Monday and 6:00 p.m. Monday until 11:00 a.m. Tuesday for water blasting to remove temporary striping.
In addition, the eastbound #1 lane will remain closed until Tuesday when the water blasting has been completed.
This $50.6 million project is adding a three-mile truck climbing lane in the eastbound direction to improve safety and ease congestion up the steep grade where trucks, buses and larger recreational vehicles lose speed.
Work will continue behind k-rail to construct a 300-foot retaining wall adjacent to the eastbound lanes. Completion of the project is expected in spring 2019 after a final layer of asphalt and permanent striping are applied to the roadway.
