Local nonprofits in the South Lake Tahoe area were presented with a record $250,000 in donations from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and American Century Championship as a result of money raised during the 2020 celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

Just as the popular golf event was unique and held without fans due to COVID-19 this year, it was a different type of ceremony handing out the money and the presentation of checks held virtually. Representatives from 53 nonprofits awarded the money were on the Thursday Zoom call.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Jolly your way to the tippy-top of Ski Run Boulevard in your best, most festive Kris Kringle outfit on Sunday, December 15. This fun-filled jaunt from the Black Bear Lodge all the way up to the bar at Himmel Haus will benefit the local nonprofit, SOS Outreach.

Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase at the start and finish. A procession with city officer support will leave Black Bear Lodge at 3:30 p.m. A fun and lucrative raffle drawing will be during the after-party at Himmel Haus.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is holding its inaugural Fall Festival fundraiser on Saturday, October 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion.

Admission is free.

There will be vendors on hand to help you start your holiday shopping or complete fll decorating needs. Some of those with their displays include Sierra Paradise Gardens, Senegence Beauty, artist Jannette Hamman, Tupperware, and Color Street.

All proceeds from booth rental fees go directly to the SLT Cancer League.

The American Legion Post 795 is located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From sunup to sundown, golfers recently hit the links at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League. Sponsored by the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe for 14 years, the Longest Day of Golf raised $14,000 to go to help local cancer patients.

On Friday a check was presented by tournament organizer Mary Luckel to the Cancer League during a barbeque at the Moose Lodge. The men and women of the Moose Lodge, the golf course and many local businesses helped the league during their Longest Day of Golf.

The Barton Foundation will be awarding $50,000 in grant funding to improve community health across the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. As part of Barton Health’s commitment to community health and collaboration, these annual grants provides funding for programs and services that positively impact the health of the local community. The annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held on Friday, April 26, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 27, from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. The show will be staged in the South Tahoe Middle School Multi-Purpose Room, behind the bus garage and next to the track, entrance off Al Tahoe Blvd.

Admission to this show is FREE, and free door prize drawings will be held every twenty minutes with prizes going to show attendees.

Elevate Wellness is hosting the 2nd annual Holiday Mall Crawl will take place at The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe on Friday, December 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This is a festive and family fun event that also serves as a fundraiser for the Lake Tahoe Fire Academy scholarship fund.

Twenty-six local nonprofits were awarded $78,974 Thursday in donations from the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and American Century Championship thanks to funds raised during the 2018 celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

“The continued support from our partners American Century Investments and NBC Sports means so much to this community,” said Carol Chaplin, president and CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “These contributions benefit so many in the South Shore a long time after the tournament ends.”

The Annual Winter Bazaar will be held on Saturday, December 8th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will be at the American Legion Post on Hwy 50, across from Meeks, and admission is free.

The annual Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, September 29, at the American Legion Post, from 10:00 Am to 4:00 PM. Admission to the show is free.

The 13th annual Longest Day of Golf will be held on June 21, 2018, at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course and will be raising funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League.

Participants spend hours on the course, from sun-up to sun-down, or however long they can last, earning money for every hole they golf. During the 2017 event they raised $10,000 and this year's goal is to have golfers play over 135 holes and raise $12,000 to help the SLT Cancer League help locals with the disease.

There will be a fundraiser for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League on Thursday, May 10 at Casey’s American Cantina.

$3.00 all you can eat chili all day long with all proceeds going to help local cancer patients.

Casey's is located in Zephyr Cove, Nev., next to Safeway.

For seven years the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge 1632 has supplied boxes of food supplies for local families in need, and this year will be no different.

This week, members of the lodge will deliver 50 decorated boxes, each packed full of a ham, vegetables, canned goods, pasta, potatoes, bread, tortillas and everything else needed to feed a family a big holiday meal, and then more for leftovers.

This year's recipients will be selected by the Family Resource Center.

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's Annual See's Candy Sale is underway 1074 Emerald Bay Rd, at the Y, next to Beach Hut Deli. The store is open from noon to 5:30 PM daily through December 24th. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Philanthropy and South Lake Tahoe non-profits were recently celebrated by the Barton Foundation as they honored their 2017 grant recipients in a luncheon at Riva Grill.

Each year the Moose Lodge of South Lake Tahoe (Loyal Order of Moose #1632) hosts the Longest Day of Golf at Tahoe Paradise Golf Course to raise funds for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League and today they celebrated their effors, $9,462. Since 2006, golfers in the day long event have raised $125,328.82 for the non-profit to use towards transportation and grants for local cancer patients.

Ruth Marie Hanson Woods, 89, passed away January 16, 2017 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah. Ruth was born on Labor Day, September 5, 1927 in Santa Rosa, California. Her mother used to say, “What an appropriate day for Ruth to be born, on Labor Day.”

She was an only child, the loving and devoted daughter of Percy Brunell and Helen Patricia LeCornec Hanson. She was raised in Santa Rosa and attended area schools and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1945. She married Norman C. Woods on April 13, 1947, at St. Rose Catholic Church, in Santa Rosa.

It's time once again for the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League's annual See's Candy Store. Starting December 1, and going until December 24 if supplies last, the community can stop by their shop at the "Y" and help the non-profit group raise the funds needed to help local residents with cancer.

Seven-days-a-week the Cancer League will have their candy store open from noon to 5:00 p.m. in a previously vacant shop next to Beachhut Deli, just a few doors down from Starbucks in the Raley's/KMart center.

A day full of activities celebrating the outdoors and pets will be Saturday, June 11 at the Harrah's Tahoe upper parking lot from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Action Adventure Expo will be partnering once again with the Hike for the Humane Society. Not only will there be guided hikes through Van Sickle Bi-State Park, but there will once again be a $5 vaccination clinic, and lots of vendor celebrating Lake Tahoe.

The 5th annual Lake Tahoe Home and Garden Show will be held April 22 and 23 at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Complex on Rufus Allen Blvd. The show will begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Saturday hours will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission to the show is free, and each attendee will receive a small gift and be entered into a chance to win a door prize.

Vendors are now being accepting for the annual Home and Garden Show held in South Lake Tahoe will be held April 22-23, 2016 at the Recreation Complex. For those that sign up before January 29, a large early bird discount is available.

Thirty South Lake Tahoe non-profits were given a share of $55,600 on Thursday, bringing the total the American Century Golf Championships have donated to the community this year to $107,100.
