New pop-up store at Stateline confusing supporters of South Lake Tahoe Cancer League candy sale

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The annual South Lake Tahoe Cancer League See's Candy fundraiser is in full swing, but for those wishing to support the nonprofit's work in the community they'll need to watch where they purchase the candy.

A new corporate pop-up store appeared near Stateline and is not associated with the Cancer League.

The annual SLT Cancer League fundraiser supports cancer patients and their trips to needed doctor's appointments. In the last 30 days, volunteer drivers took local patients to 95 appointments and 32 patients received $250 in financial assistance. The volunteer drivers get gas reimbursement for the trips to Reno, Sacramento, Truckee or Carson City. There are no South Lake Tahoe facilities that can take the patients.

Without the money raised during the See's candy sales they would be unable to support patients as they currently do.

The shop the SLT Cancer League operates is in The Crossing this year inside the former Bass Shoe Outlet located at 2038 Lake Tahoe Blvd., at the intersection of Highway 50 and 89. The store will be operated by volunteers from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sundays until they are sold out.
