Trump Administration targets recreational marijuana
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/04/2018 - 6:40pmAtty. Gen. Jeff Sessions ended an Obama-era federal policy that provided legal shelter for marijuana sales in California, Nevada and four other states (Washington, Oregon, Colorado and Maine) that have allowed recreational pot, placing at risk thousands of marijuana businesses operating legally under state laws.
The Justice Department move on Thursday plunged California’s fledgling recreational pot market into further uncertainty, and was met with a bipartisan backlash from lawmakers in states where marijuana is now sold legally to any adult who wants to buy it.

A front will drop down near Susanville this weekend, but nothing is expected further south, but temperatures will drop a couple of degrees.

Mac the Naw says Merry Fishmas to all and wait awhile longer for Sierra lakes to ice over
Submitted by paula on Sat, 12/23/2017 - 9:21pmHello fellow anglers. I am happy to say, the winter solstice has come and gone. Meaning, each day now brings one minute longer of daylight. But as we all know, that does not mean it will get any warmer soon. Down here in the Minden and Carson Valleys we've experienced an average of 7 to 10 degree mornings.
Most would think that the higher lakes would be frozen and iced over. I received a report from fellow angler Josh Otto last week. As Josh told me, Caples Lake had high winds and was down right cold and had waves blowing across the lake.
Five tips for a happier, healthier holiday season
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/14/2017 - 3:07pmThe Holiday Season is an especially wonderful time of year. We look forward to holiday get togethers, to holiday meals, to good cheer and yes, treats. But we don’t look forward to holiday pounds. Many of our New Year’s resolutions are testament to our holiday eating patterns. We vow to start a diet, or to exercise more, or change habits. We know we often consume more than we should. So what can we do to reduce the unhealthy parts of the holidays, and keep the treasured parts?
Foggy start to the day in Lake Tahoe; Forecast shows sunny and warming
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/13/2017 - 10:58amThe fog was socked in around Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning, but its starting to recede and retreat and should be all clear by noon.
It isn't often when the temperature of the lake is warmer than the air, but that is what happens when fog is created. The cold air mass condensates into clouds and sits low over the lake and South Lake Tahoe. The ski resorts were sitting above the fog and had a very sunny morning.

Letter: Local tired of VHRs in neighborhood
Submitted by paula on Sun, 11/19/2017 - 3:52pmTwelve years of Vacation Home Rentals (VHRs), what a sad place So. Lake Tahoe residential neighborhoods have become. Thanks go to local Realtors, out of town owners, and VHR rental agencies, who care mostly about money, not about the peace and tranquility of the local residents. But they’re not alone, we also have City and County officials that don’t represent the locals that elect them, instead it’s all about the tourists and their friends in the VHR business, some of those friends are elected officials.
Letter: VHRs in El Dorado County are out of control
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/18/2017 - 9:53pmDear Editor;
In writing this letter, I am only expressing my own opinion and not that of
any organization or entity.
Vacation Home Rentals (VHRs) in the County are out of control. As is
evidenced by the number of residents complaining about noise, parking, trash,
over-occupancy, etc, it is time for our government representatives to act and
change the current ordinance to respect our rights to live in peaceful
neighborhoods.
There are many issues surrounding VHRs that need to be addressed, but I

Don't Forget: Change the time, Change the battery
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/03/2017 - 6:48pmDaylight Saving Time (DST) ends at exactly at 2:00 a.m. this Sunday, November 5. Turn the clocks back one hour if you live in most of the United States (most of Arizona and Hawaii don't observe DST).
This time of year serves as a good reminder to change their smoke detector batteries. The batteries should be replaced twice a year, so an easy way to remember to change them is to do it as DST begins and ends.
Almost 3,000 people die each year from structure fires, and many of these deaths can be prevented with working smoke detectors.
So remember: change the time, change your battery!

Can a mega fire happen in Lake Tahoe?
Submitted by paula on Fri, 10/13/2017 - 9:05pmBefore that question can be answered, we need to understand what a mega fire is. To be a mega fire it needs to meet these five points:
1. Starts near or in a high fire danger area during approaching or actual red flag conditions,
2. Escapes the initial attack,
3. Develops into a campaign fire covering a large area,
4. Requires thousand of firefighters and extensive additional resources to bring final containment,
5. Often cause huge property and other cultural losses in addition to vegetation destroyed.

Opinion: Rebuttal to SassTalk
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/09/2017 - 2:52pmThe following is a letter received concerning the Sass Talk published on October 7:
I hate to waste my time, but I cannot let the erroneous propaganda put out by the Emperor of City Hall go unrebutted. The City will not let go of this “nuisance” problem as it diverts focus on the dismal road conditions that the City has neglected for years. Also, City management has totally failed to provide a reliable snow removal system as we experienced last winter.
