Year's First National Water Forecast Predicts Limited Supply in Lake Tahoe and Rest of West

The NWCC also predicts normal water supply east of the Continental Divide and will continue to monitor, forecast and update water supplies for the next six months.

Round Hill Pines Scheduled to Change Operators at End of 2013
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/15/2013 - 4:13pmBob and Tammy Hassett, current operators of Camp Richardson and Meeks Bay Resort have been selected to run the concession at Round Hill Pines Resort according to Cheva Heck of the U.S. Forest Service. The current lease is held by the Forvilly family and is set to expire on December 31, 2013. Frank Forvilly has operated Round Hill Pines since 1971 and just found out yesterday that they weren't awarded the new contract.
Revitalized Chateau Project Bringing in Change to the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core

Many locals have called this area "The Hole" since construction stalled in 2008 but they are now seeing life being put into one of the cornerstones of the South Lake Tahoe Tourist Core.

According to the weather reports, a low pressure system and a cold front reaches the eastern Sierra and western Nevada late Sunday and Monday.
As the low approaches, winds will increase this afternoon with
gusts of 40 to 50 mph across northeast California including the Lake Tahoe
basin and western Nevada. Gusts in wind prone areas along Highway

Back Roads - Lake Tahoe to Apple Hill via Highway 4

Since my free time is so rare I figured why not include a visit to our favorite little town Sutter Creek? And then, since we're doing that, might as well throw in a drive down beautiful Highway 4! Since the portion of the road we'll be covering is closed after the first big snow we had to do it! The day was plotted on a map in my head with some verification on google maps. The map said our little trip was going to take 5 hours and 10 minutes and cover 225 miles.
Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel Invests $5 Million in Renovations

On April 1 of this year, the hotel owners, Ken Corporation, Ltd and management team, PHR Management, announced that they would be dropping the franchise agreement with Embassy Suites and become the Lake Tahoe Resort. Since then, they have been investing $5 million in property renovations and upgrading all 400 rooms in the nine-story all-suite hotel. The work is taking place in phases with completion planned for the winter season.
First Day of Fall Brings Cooler Temperatures to South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Thu, 09/19/2013 - 5:53amSunday is the first day of Fall and the change of seasons is bringing cooler temperatures with it to the Lake Tahoe region. But, how chilly it will get is differing between the popular weather forecasters.
Accuweather.com says the temperatures for Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be 72,60,62 respectively. Wunderground.com has the temperatures as 70,52 and 63 while weather.com states 74, 58 and 66.
There is a 50% chance of rain on Saturday night which may bring snow to elevations over 8,000 feet above sea level.
El Dorado County Adopts Balanced Budget
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/16/2013 - 7:37pmThe El Dorado County Board of Supervisors conceptually adopted a $587 million balanced budget for fiscal year 2013-14 at a special budget hearing held September 16.
Chief Budget Officer Laura Schwartz presented the numbers to the supervisors. Focusing on the General Fund which pays for many of the county’s discretionary programs, Schwartz highlighted an $11 million increase in fund balance from the initial budget approved earlier this summer. The change in fund balance represents a combination of increased revenue and decreased spending within county departments.

The Lake Tahoe Community College Theatre Arts Department will be holding auditions for its fall theatre production of “The Laramie Project: 10 Years Later” on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the college’s Duke Theatre.
This production commemorates the 15th anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s death. Several events will be presented at the college in association with this production, including a screening of the brand new documentary film, “Matthew Shepard is a Friend of Mine.”

Transgender Bill for School Equality is Passed Into Law

Jerry Brown signed into law Assembly Bill 1266 which allows transgender youth to use whatever bathroom and participate on whichever sports team they believe matches their gender identity. This groundbreaking bill gives students in public K-12 schools the right "to participate in sex-segregated programs, activities and facilities" based on their self-perception, regardless of their birth gender.
Smoke back in the Lake Tahoe basin but Rim Fire at 60% containment
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/02/2013 - 6:57amThe Rim Fire continues to affect South Lake Tahoe as winds change from the South/Southwest and bring smoke into the basin. Saturday's clear blue skies have now become grey, a combination of smoke and a weather system that will bring isolated thunderstorms to the region today.
Firefighters gained a lot of ground on the fire in the last 24 hours and now have it listed at 60% contained. The Rim Fire is now the 4th largest in California's history and the largest in the U.S. in 2013.

Although each state has enacted its own laws to enhance the federal law and protect their own citizens, the ADA remains the primary civil rights law for people living with a disability.
UC Davis researcher Charles Goldman to discuss Lake Tahoe, climate change

UC Davis research at Lake Tahoe began with Dr. Goldman. In 1959, he formed the Tahoe Research Group and began regularly monitoring Lake Tahoe. Goldman successfully combined effective research and social action with his pioneering studies of lake eutrophication (the dense growth of algae and other organisms).
LTCC Needs Community Input to Develop New Vision

Lake Tahoe Community College is holding a visioning session on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the LTCC Board Room next to the Library. The community is invited to contribute to a conversation about the future of the College as we move toward 2020.
Changes in state regulations are forcing LTCC to change what we do and who we serve. These changes have created challenges that must be overcome if LTCC is to continue serving the communities of Lake Tahoe.

Elizabeth Carmel appointing to TRPA Governing Board

The seat is one of 14 voting positions on the environmental planning agency’s board - seven representing California and seven representing Nevada. One board seat, appointed by the President of the United States, is non-voting.

United Way partners with grants to help Lake Tahoe area agencies

TRPA director named Public Servant of the Year by North Lake Tahoe Association

“I just carry the baton, I carry it for all of you,” she told the audience upon receiving the award to a standing ovation Wednesday night at the Ritz-Carlton, Northstar, California.
