From driver to GM, Dan Garrison set to retire after 34 years at the Ridge Tahoe

A man who worked through the ranks from a driver to senior vice president/general manager at the Ridge Tahoe is set to retire in December, 34 years after first walking in the door at the mountain top resort on the South Shore.

They’ve volunteered their time as sponsor crew members when the Lake Tahoe Windjammers Club has hosted Adopt-A-Days in the summer. However, on Monday, October 3, Kurt and Laura’s Sunbeam Blind Company sponsored its first AAD. According to Gail Clair, the B&B Adopt-A-Day Coordinator, Kurt, Laura and their fellow crew member Brendan Lockamy were “Awesome, so nice, fun and helpful!”

NDOW releases Lake Tahoe bear back into the wild near Mt. Rose

Nevada wildlife biologists released a three-plus year old male black bear back into the forest near the top of Mt. Rose Summit on Monday morning after capturing him Sunday in Incline Village at Lake Tahoe.

Nevada Department of Wildlife trapped the young bear while attempting to trap another bear that had caused damage to a building, according to wildlife biologist Carl Lackey. The bear that was captured and then later released Monday wasn't the bear Lackey was looking for.

Lackey says that NDOW had handled the released bear once before in the mountains east of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

On August 15, Bread & Broth served 125 nutritious meals at St. Theresa Grace Hall to those in our community who struggle with hunger. Thanks to the generosity of Friends of Temple Bat Yam, the dinner’s Adopt A Day sponsor, the diners enjoyed a tasty Mexican casserole prepared by B&B’s amazing cooks. The dinner guests also were provided with bags filled with dairy products, fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries provided by donations from local businesses and B&B donors.

Trump in and out of South Lake Tahoe quickly

Donald Trump and the almost 900 attendees at Friday night's fundraising dinner at Harrah's Tahoe most likely didn't see or hear the protesters outside, but passing cars and pedestrians sure did.

A small group of protesters started standing on the corner of Stateline Avenue and Lake Tahoe Blvd at 5:00 p.m., waiving signs and chanting anti-Trump sentiments. Honks and clapping greeted the group outside, while those inside paid $200 to $500 a person to attend the 2016 Battle Ground Dinner, sponsored by the Nevada Republican Party.

Chopped Restaurant Impossible winner to be guest chef at Sample the Sierra

Food Network star, Reno native and culinary storyteller Chef Clint Jolly will be the featured guest chef at Sample the Sierra’s Pop-Up Dinner on Friday, Sept. 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This year's featured dinner will be held at Park Prime inside Hard Rock Lake Tahoe.

Jolly, the winner of the popular television competition, “Chopped: Restaurant Impossible” also founded Great Thyme Catering based in Reno but specializing in creating memorable events throughout the West.

South Tahoe High grad celebrates release of new music video

Tiffany "TJ" Carter may not yet be a household name, but that may soon change with the national release of a music video off her first album.

The 30-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman, a 2003 graduate of South Tahoe High, is celebrating the video's release and shared the news from her berth on a Carnival Cruise Line ship. She also talked about how she got started on her career in a town she's called home since 1989.

Bill Cottrill promoted to General Manager of Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel

Not quite two years after his last promotion to chief managing officer of Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Bill Cottrill needs another business card. Cottrill, who has been with the property for 18 years, was promoted to general manager effective June 1 by the hotel’s ownership group Premier Hotel Collection.

Cottrill’s long tenure is not unusual for the hotel that enjoys a continuously low turnover rate year after year.

At the 2016 Amgen Tour of California, the biggest and most prestigious pro cycling race in America, the young development team Axeon Hagens Berman is making a name for itself and its riders – and three of them share a look at what's for breakfast on the road.

The 144 pro cyclists (18 teams) in the 8-day race aim to consume the same amount of calories they burn on the bike, which at Amgen, depending on the length and toughness of the day, can be anywhere between 4,000 to a whopping 8,000 calories!

Dr. Terry Orr of Tahoe Center for Orthopedics receives USSA award

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) recognized Dr. Terry Orr of South Lake Tahoe as the 2016 recipient of the John J. Clair Jr. Award.

The John J. Clair Jr. Award is given annually to a person who provides exceptional service to the U.S. Ski Team or U.S. Snowboarding. Past recipients include Dave McCoy, the founder of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and Deedee Corradini, the first and only female mayor of Salt Lake City. This year, Dr. Orr received the award at the USSA Congress’s Chairman Awards Dinner on Friday, May 13 in Park City, Utah.

Two day celebration of art, food and wine in South Lake Tahoe

13th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration at Heavenly

The South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (a non-profit public benefit agency) will hold its 13th annual Cinco de Mayo festival at Heavenly’s California Lodge on Friday, May 6 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. An all-you-can-eat Mexican buffet, authentic live music, folkloric dancers, children’s activities, a no-host beer and wine bar and tequila tasting will be featured at the event.

Tickets are on sale at the center for $20 in advance. They will be $25 at the door. Children 6 to 12 years old will be admitted for $10 and children younger than 5 are admitted free.

Sue Novasel to speak to South Tahoe Chamber

El Dorado County Supervisor Sue Novasel will speak to the South Tahoe Chamber on Monday, April 18 during a special meeting that begins at 6:00 p.m. at the Catina Restaurant.

Novasel represents District 5 which includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers and Tahoma.

The meeting is open to Chamber members and the public.

Sue will begin speaking at about 6:30 p.m. after some Chamber business is conducted. There will be a question and answer period moderated by the Chamber Board President in order to get as many questions answered as possible.

Windjammers Yacht Club Annual Chowder Feed and Membership Drive

Lion King opens on the Tahoe Valley stage

Simba, Mufasa, Scar, Nala and Rafiki and their friends have shown up in South Lake Tahoe along with dozens of other characters from the Lion King.

Tahoe Valley Elementary School's elaborate musical stage production of Disney's Lion King Kids opens Wednesday night for a two-night run, but they have already treated classmates and visiting students to early performances.

St. Theresa Catholic Church holding 22nd annual Crab Dinner

It's always a sign of crab season when the St. Theresa Catholic Church holds their annual crab dinner in South Lake Tahoe. This year marks the 22nd year they've held the fundraiser.

This year, the dinner will be held on Friday, February 12. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with their famous dessert auction at 7:45 p.m.

Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Tickets are being sold at the Rectory Office located at 1041 Lyons Ave. and at the Religious Education Office at 1081 Lyons Ave., both in South Lake Tahoe. Must be at least 21 to attend.

South Lake Tahoe woman facing brain cancer with friends, family and hugs

"I will not let cancer define who I am. Cancer is not going to be my story."

Those powerful words come from South Lake Tahoe local Krista Kline Carson.

The 1989 South Tahoe High graduate, wife, mother and wellness coordinator for Barton University, is battling cancer after a tumor removed from her brain was found to be Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme, one of the fastest growing brain cancers. On Monday, January 18 she begins a six week regime of radiation and chemotherapy.
