South Lake Tahoe Labor Day traffic test to include full road closures
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 5:31pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In an attempt to address traffic concerns on side roads in the Meyers area, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and El Dorado County (EDC) conducted a test and put up two road closures on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Barriers were placed at the intersections of Highway 50 and both Sawmill and North Upper Truckee roads in an attempt to keep westbound holiday traffic out of the neighborhoods and on the highway. In addition, they were also evaluating the traffic backup on both roads and the routing of traffic by directional apps like Waze and Google.

It will be held on August 6 and South Lake Tahoe and the South Shore will be holding their event that night at Bijou Community School on Spruce Avenue from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
South Lake Tahoe Police: 18-year-old arrested after allegedly striking cyclist with car, fleeing scene
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/16/2019 - 4:47pm7:30 p.m. update: An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Felony Hit and Run Causing Injury. Rafael Aliberth Corte-Zulloa is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on a $10,000 bail hold.
The car SLTPD had been looking for was found in the 800 block of Los Angeles Avenue in South Lake Tahoe less than an hour after the crash, leading to the arrest of Corte-Zulloa.

Identity of man found deceased on South Lake Tahoe golf course released
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/09/2019 - 9:13amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.- The identity of the man found deceased on the 4th of July at the Bijou Municipal Golf Course has been released by the El Dorado County Sheriff Coroner. 55-year-old Dean Kohler of South Lake Tahoe was found near the entrance to the golf course which is located on Fairway Avenue.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department said the deceased was not wearing clothing but no foul play is suspected. The case is still under investigation and cause of death is not known.
Tahoe Prosperity Center facilitating South Shore Housing Needs Survey

TPC provides regional solutions to regional needs on behalf of the communities that make up the Lake Tahoe region. One of those critical issues is a lack of housing for local workers. This negatively impacts businesses trying to hire workers and local residents who want to live, work and play in Lake Tahoe. Many workers in our Tourism driven economy find themselves unable to afford a home or apartment.

Barbara Avenue in South Lake Tahoe to remain closed
Submitted by paula on Sat, 07/06/2019 - 9:02pmThe Sierra Boulevard street project is progressing and the next phase between Barbara Avenue and Alma Avenue is requiring El Dorado County to temporarily close Barbara Avenue until August 15.
The project consists of full roadway reconstruction and pedestrian and drainage improvements along Sierra Boulevard from Palmira Blvd. to Barbara Ave.
The Barbara Avenue closure is necessary to ensure motorist and worker safety. Prior to July 1 the road was kept open on weekends and other non-construction hours but that will no longer be the case.
One home a total loss, another suffers major damage after fire near South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 07/05/2019 - 10:55amMEYERS, Calif. - One house is a total loss and another suffered major damage after a 4th of July fire on Tehama Drive in Meyers.
At 9:30 p.m., a call went into Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) of a house fire. At first, the caller thought the fire to be on Seneca Drive but it turned out to be at 703 Tehama Drive.
LVFPD Battalion Chief Brad Zlendick said the fire spread to a second home next door, causing major damage to the attic and sides.

To start off the holiday, the City of South Lake Tahoe is organizing the annual 4th of July parade down Highway 50 from Ski Run Boulevard to Bijou Community Park on Al Tahoe Boulevard starting at 10:00 a.m.
South Lake Tahoe jury finds local man guilty of attempted murder

On August 13, 2018 at 2:40 a.m., four nurses from Reno staying in a hotel in the Heavenly Village area heard a woman screaming for help. When the nurses went to investigate the screams they witnessed Arce viciously attacking a woman by punching her, kicking her, and stomping on her head.

The best way to enjoy travel both for locals and visitors is to plan ahead and know what to expect.
Starting with the 4th of July holiday, expect heavier than normal traffic on roads to, from and around Lake Tahoe Wednesday-Sunday. Caltrans work on their area projects will be suspended during that duration with roadwork resuming Monday, July 8.
Florida man arrested in Meyers on charges stemming from alleged stalking and criminal threats
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/28/2019 - 4:45pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - An Ormond Beach, Florida man is sitting in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on charges of stalking, carrying a concealed weapon and vandalism.
On June 24, detectives from the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) began an around-the-clock investigation of an interstate stalking and criminal threats case. The case involved credible and serious threats against the victim’s life according to EDSO.

It comes to down monthly from May-October and brings food, fresh fruits and vegetables to families in need.

Conservancy approves $500K to spend on Alta Mira project in South Lake Tahoe

The project will include the construction of conveyance channels and detention basins, and install perforated pipes to infiltrate stormwater, which will increase groundwater recharge and reduce stormwater volumes, peak flows, and stormwater pollutants.

Officers will be at the library in South Lake Tahoe each Friday at 10:30 a.m. starting June 21 to read stories for the youth in our community in English and the Spanish version, Libros Y Placas, every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Each storytime will last about one hour and is suitable for families with young children.
Pilot full closure program on two roads in Meyers to help address traffic issues

El Dorado County Department of Transportation (EDCDOT) Director Rafael Martinez joined other staff members in presenting the traffic congestion circulation alternative to the approximately 25 people in attendance. There will be a hard closure in place on Sawmill Road near Highway 50, and on North Upper Truckee near Highway 50 during the July 4th and Labor Day holiday weekends as part of a pilot project.

Letter: New SnowGlobe contract still doesn't address concerns

It brings thousands of visitors during our busiest holiday and drives room rates through the ceiling. It also is now proven to violate El Dorado County noise regulations which the County refuses to enforce. It violates the Bijou/Al Tahoe Community Plan noise regulations which the TRPA refuses to enforce. It violates the requirements of the Temporary Activity Permit which both the City and TRPA are working to revise.
Could Meyers have a second roundabout by 2021?

During a public meeting on Wednesday, the El Dorado County Transportation Department (EDCDOT) and their planning partners unveiled posters of the two options for the intersection: a roundabout or an upgraded signal (doing nothing is also an option). Community members asked questions, left ideas on a map and are now encouraged to continue in the process by submitting comments.

Aryan Brotherhood prison gang drug and murder ring broken up with help of El Dorado County DA's Office

Sixteen members and associates of a prison-based gang have been charged after a long-running investigation into drug trafficking and murders inside and outside of California’s prisons.
The EDC DA office's investigative division has the kind of highly trained and experienced detectives that are often called in to help with operations of this magnitude.

Public meeting to discuss $688.7M El Dorado County recommended budget
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/05/2019 - 10:07pmEL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The Board of Supervisors will hold a public meeting on June 17 to go over the El Dorado County Fiscal Year 2019-20 Recommended Budget of $688.7 million. This special meeting starts at 10:00 a.m. and will be held in the Board's Placerville meeting room at 330 Fair Lane.
The County's Chief Administrative Officer, Don Ashton delivered the budget to the supervisors and it is also available online for review. State law mandates that the Recommended Budget be submitted to the Board on or before June 30th of each year.
Search teams from Placer and El Dorado County Sheriff's offices search for men missing in area rivers
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/04/2019 - 10:46pmThe Placer County Sheriff's Office was called to the American River Confluence Tuesday evening just before 5:00 p.m. on a report of a young man hanging from a tree, yelling for help. One of their deputies saw the unidentified man going down the river but lost sight of him. The Placer Sheriff helicopter was called in to aid in the search but they could not locate the missing man. The search was called off due to darkness.
The American River Confluence is in Auburn.

Lake Tahoe canoers stranded 3/4 mile off shore after boat takes on water

The two people were in a canoe that took on water for unknown reasons about 3/4 of a mile off the shore of South Lake Tahoe. They ended up in the water and were there for about ten minutes before a local boater got to them and pulled them out of the water. The Nevada Department of Wildlife had a boat on the water that reached the group, followed by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) boat. SLTPD got the pair off the local boater's boat and returned them to El Dorado Beach.
South Lake Tahoe restaurants give local law enforcement free meals all week

This isn't the first time Azul Latin Kitchen, California Burger Co., Social House Deli and Ten Crows BBQ have honored those who are tasked with the responsibility of protecting the community. They have had first responder days, and most recently, days to say "thank you" to snow removal crews.
Voters to select new California State Senator to represent District 1 on June 4
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/03/2019 - 3:38pmThere is a Special Runoff Election on June 4, 2019 scheduled to fill a vacancy in Senate District 1. All currently registered voters in the County of El Dorado are eligible to participate.
When Ted Gaines won a seat on the California Board of Equalization in November, the Senate District 1 seat he had held since 2011 was up for grabs. In March there was an election to decide his replacement, but since no candidate won more than 50 percent of the vote the top two are now on Tuesday's ballot.

Dina Stephanie Espinosa had been sitting in one of the pools of water near the waterfall when she slipped as she was reaching for a branch, got caught in the current and went over the waterfall, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO).

Public meeting on Pioneer Trail/US 50 Safety Project in Meyers

The County of El Dorado will be holding a public workshop to receive residents’ input on the Pioneer Trail/ U.S. 50 Intersection Safety Improvement Project on Wednesday, June 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the California Conservation Corps in Meyers.
Project alternatives currently being evaluated include a ‘no build’ option, a larger signalized intersection, and a roundabout.
If you are interested in learning more about the Project, this would be an excellent
opportunity for you to help influence the future of Meyers.
