SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two new thought-provoking art exhibits at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) can be enjoyed in a safe and virtual manner.
In LTCC's Haldan Gallery is Loren Madsen's "Worry Beads," a large sculpture of wood-carved beads strung together like a chain, with each bead representing one year between 1945 to 2017. Each individual bead's size tells a story about how many terrorist-caused deaths occurred in that year globally. It makes for a sublime piece of woodworking skill and a powerful political statement.

Letter: Unacceptable duplicitous behavior
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/20/2020 - 9:42amMy pragmatic mind looks at the recent George Floyd riots in our cities, and as usual, I am astounded with the contrast of how our society and press view the participants, the two sides, in rioting demonstrations recently in our cities.
Peaceful demonstrations as stated by the constitution I have no problem with, even if I disagree with the position of the demonstrators. However, there are two sides to the action in these riots.

Genesis tells us that God destroyed all land and its inhabitants in judgment of sin within 1700 years of creation and Jesus affirms this in both the accounts of Luke and Mathew, yet modern academia (including many Christian schools) deny a global flood during the human experience. Could the "greatest minds of science" be wildly wrong about something as big as a moving continent or the interpretation of the fossil record? Have geologists been wrong about something this big in the recent past? Could the concept of geologic time be a runaway legend from the 20th century?

Red Flag Warning - National fire danger rating system
Submitted by paula on Thu, 08/30/2018 - 3:16pmOver the last several months there has been a great deal of wildland fire activity around the region. Sadly, most fires are human-caused and completely preventable if the public would take the time to better understand conditions that are favorable for fire starts. Fire prevention is the key to keeping our communities and forests safe from wildfire.
Although fire season is now considered a year-round event, wildfires mostly occur in the late summer and early fall when temperatures are still high, humidity is low and vegetation that can feed a wildfire is extremely dry.
