Lake Tahoe agency helps families provide for a better Christmas
Submitted by Editor on Fri, 12/21/2012 - 4:29pmTahoe Regional Planning Agency staff dug into their wallets and scoured shopping and grocery stores continuing the tradition of bringing a little cheer to local children and families in need over the holidays.
This year staff provided gifts of clothes and toys to 35 foster children ages 4 – 17 through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
Lake Tahoe, Sierra brace for winter storms to arrive as Christmas travel period begins
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 12/20/2012 - 6:16pmA series of strong winter storms will arrive in three waves and when it is over, anywhere from 2 to 5 feet of snow will have dropped above Lake Tahoe, at ski resorts, on highways and throughout much of the Sierra in time for Christmas.
A Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect through Monday morning for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra as a strong series of systems moves into the region.
Periods of light to moderate snow will begin Friday and intensive early Saturday morning with moderate to heavy snow Saturday through Sunday night.

Winter storms through the weekend, Christmas holiday to bring feet of snow to Lake Tahoe
Submitted by Editor on Tue, 12/18/2012 - 3:36pmArriving in time for the Christmas holidays, a series of winter storms are headed for Lake Tahoe prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a Winter Storm Watch.
Snow amounts of 18 to 30 inches are expected above 7,000 feet and around a foot at lake level Friday through Saturday, according to the weather service.

The Young Professions organized a holiday ‘FUN’draiser to benefit Tahoe’s SkiDUCK, (SKi and snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids) at Riva Grill last month which included an evening of live music, raffle prizes, silent auction items, photo booth, games, food and drinks.

Locals and visitors united to celebrate the kick off the South Shore Lake Tahoe ski and snowboard season. Among the festivities were food and drink specials, contests, bands playing upstairs and downstairs, the frozen t-shirt contest and various giveaways from Sierra-at-Tahoe, Sensational Tans, Sierra Athletic Club, Tahoe Bowl, The Village Board Shop and Camp Richardson.
Heavenly at Lake Tahoe celebrates with early opening

Early-season storms combined with the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system have given Heavenly the ability to stage its earliest opening since 2004-05. All access to the mountain at this time is through the Heavenly Gondola and Tamarack Express.

One of the chipmunks was found in the Tallac Historic Site area and one was near the U.S. Forest Service Taylor Creek Visitor Center.
Nevada Posts 26th Consecutive Taxable Sales Increase In August
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 10/25/2012 - 1:31pmCARSON CITY – Nevada recorded its 26th consecutive month of taxable sales increases in August, when consumers spent $3.7 billion on goods and services for a 7.6 percent jump over August 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.
The last decrease in statewide taxable sales came in June 2010, when a 0.3 percent decline was reported over June 2009.
Taxable sales grew by 8.1 percent in Clark County and jumped double-digits in Washoe County to 10.5 percent.
