After months of building, remodeling, planning and prepping, Sonney Bruning has opened "Sonney's BBQ Shack" in South Lake Tahoe.

"We've redone everything from the plumbing to the beer chiller, from the furniture to the floors," Bruning said while taking an unusual break right before the restaurant's soft opening March 22.

You've seen ads to buy or sell belongings, but the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) has now developed a way to buy or sell development rights of property.

There is now an online marketplace for property owners, realtors and land banks to use to increase the environmental improvements that come from transferring commonly-traded development rights in the Lake Tahoe Region.

Sheriff John D’Agostini is pleased to announce that the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a two year $250,000.00 Justice and Mental Health Collaboration Program Grant. The award from the US Department of Justice will be used to assist the Sheriff’s “Crisis Intervention Team” (CIT).

Sierra-at-Tahoe® Resort will host a job fair to fill seasonal positions for the coming winter season on November 2, 2013 at the Sierra™ Resort base lodge near South Lake Tahoe from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Operational departments will be interviewing and hiring seasonal workers including Lift Operations, Retail, Food & Beverage, Adult Ski & Snowboard School, Wild Mountain Children’s Center, Blizzard Mountain, Guest Services, Parking, Rental & Repair Services and Ticket Administration. Positions range from full-time November through April to Weekends and Holidays only.

TahoeChamber and the United States Census Bureau are teaming up to present two workshops focusing on how to navigate through the Census website and the American FactFinder website.

The workshops will be held on September 26 in the TahoeChamber Conference Room at 169 US HWY 50, Stateline, NV. Bring a laptop computer to interactively participate in the workshop. Along with the Lake Tahoe Regional Plan Update, Mobility 2035, which is the Lake Tahoe Regional Transportation Plan and Sustainable Communities Strategy, was also approved by regional boards last week at Harveys Resort convention center in Stateline.

Passage of the Sustainable Communities Strategy makes Tahoe the fourth region in the state of California to approve a plan that complies with new greenhouse gas emissions legislation, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization (TMPO).

After nearly five years of brutal economic decline, government retrenchment and a widespread loss of confidence in its future, California is showing the first signs of a rebound. There is evidence of job growth, economic stability, a resurgent housing market and rising spirits in a state that was among the worst hit by the recession.

I feel like our group had many salient ideas that were not properly represented. El Dorado County Habitat for Humanity & St. Joseph Community Land Trust will hold its annual Hike for Housing Fundraiser, 9am-3pm Spooner Lake on Sept. 15. The Hike for Housing event raises funds for affordable housing locally. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) released their monthly report, and the national news is much as it is in Lake Tahoe: "Sales of existing homes rose in July even with constraints of affordable inventory." Their report stated that monthly sales rose in every region but the West, where inventory is very tight.
