Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with the Drug Enforcement Agency in hosting a Drug Take Back on Saturday, October 22, 2016. This will be the public’s 12th opportunity in the County over the last six years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs. You can drop off your pet medications also.

Bring your pills for disposal at the following locations between 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

9:30 a.m. update 6/26: Firefighters have gained some control of the Marina Fire burning near Mono Lake and the town of Lee Vining. The 758 acre fire is 30 percent contained.

Highway 395 is closed at the town of Lee Vining on the south at the turnoff for Hawthorne, NV (Highway 167) on the north. However, California Highway Patrol is conducting one-way traffic escorts as conditions allow. Mono County Sheriff and Caltrans District 9 have worked tirelessly with CHP to implement this escort.

US 50: Is open with no control over Echo Summit. From Stateline to mile post 14.6 above Carson City, Chains or Snow Tires.

US 88: Chains or 4WD with snow tires from on CA-88 from mile post 41.7 in Amador County to mile post 13.4 in Alpine County in Nevada.

SR 207 Kingsbury Grade: Chains or snow tires from mile post 0.0 in Douglas County to mile post 12.0.

Hwy 395: Snow Tires required on US-395 from mile post 0.2 in Douglas County to mile post 23.7

A few days of light rain in South Lake Tahoe didn't amount to large numbers of precipitation with .7 inches recorded as of Sunday afternoon. A slight chance of showers continues until Monday evening.

The lake may have not received snow, but Sonora Pass, State Route 108, is currently closed from 26 miles east of Strawberry to the junction with Hwy 395 due to snow.

The seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Sunday - Isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 60. East wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

8 p.m. update 8/18/15:

The Walker Fire has now burned 3,715 acres and is now 35% contained. It has been determined that the fire is human caused and is under investigation.

There are 484 firefighters working on the fire along with 4 helicopters, 2 Air tankers, 34 Engines, 10 Crews, 6 Water Tenders, and 4 Dozers.

235 structures remain threatened but none have burned so far.
