El Dorado County fires prompt evacuations

8:00 p.m. update: Omega Fire is 10 percent contained, reported at 80 acres with 1 destroyed residence and two damaged residences. The evacuation center has been relocated to Northside Elementary School, 860 Cave Valley Road, Cool, Calif.

The Bumper Fire is 80 percent contained and it has burned 67 acres according to CalFire.

Three fires started in El Dorado County Wednesday, prompting law enforcement to evacuate residents from several streets in the areas as firefighters fought the fire from both the ground and the air.

The Bumper Fire is burning southeast of Shingle Springs in the area of Bumper Road off of China Hill Road near Frenchtown. As of 6:30 p.m., evacuations have been lifted but soft road closures are in effect (residents only) on W. China Hill Road at Highway 49. Use caution in the area as fire equipment is still moving.

The second fire is in Pilot Hill and named the Omega Fire. Structures have been involved and evacuations were underway. It burned 70 acres and was five percent contained as of 5:30 p.m. An evacuation center has been set up at 3734 China Garden Way, Diamond Springs Fireman's Hall.

Also starting Wednesday, the Peavine Fire, has burned three acres and is moving at a slow rate of speed in timber and grass near Ice House Road and Peavine Ridge. Firefighters have been able to get a hose line around the fire.
