Al Roker of NBC’s Today Show fame, will discuss his passion, interest and concerns about climate change, as well as his storied career as keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm, the annual television meteorologists’ conference at Lake Tahoe. The public is invited to tune in via Facebook to watch Roker on Monday, January 25.
Operation Sierra Storm (OSS) in an annual weather conference held on the South Shore. Due to health and safety restrictions, the public is unable to attend Monday's event in person, but they are welcome to participate via Facebook.
Tahoe athletes to offer backcountry safety tips during free live panel session

The American Legion Auxiliary and Vets in Counseling members placed approximately 600 flags at Happy Homestead Monday, after the snow fell.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bubbles & Bowties, the adult prom that annually raises money for juvenile diabetes, will be held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel on January 25, 2020.
Normally held in October, organizers of Bubbles & Bowties decided to move the popular event for two reasons: Problems with their original venue and a desire to not do a fundraiser near any others in town.

The future of Tahoe tourism needs to be sustainable. This year’s Annual Tourism Forum will address this global concern on a local level on Thursday, May 30 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 8:00 a.m. to noon. Responsible tourism is something all businesses in the Lake Tahoe basin are working towards and this year’s forum will explore that theme. I’m happily involved in different aspects of our community and that part of my life is why I feel so grateful and blessed. Tuesday’s Drug Store Project for our sixth-grade youth was a testament to the compassion and dedication of our agencies, businesses, service clubs, and community members for the good of its people.

Since 2004, middle school students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) have gone through the Drug Store Project (DSP), a day-long comprehensive drug prevention program designed to educate youth about the dangers of substance use and abuse.

Many of the South Shore's top employees will be at "Tahoe Works," a summer job fair and "ultimate hiring event" on Thursday, May 17, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Harvey's Lake Tahoe.

New South Lake Tahoe communications system; Price tag close to $4M

1) There are three systems working totally separately: the police, fire and public works departments;
2) Trees have grown since the system was installed 53 years ago, now blocking signals through the town;
3) Having functioning radio frequencies near water is challenging.
Mountain Travel Symposium brings 1,100 people from 35+ countries to Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 04/06/2018 - 8:47amThis week provides another chance for South Lake Tahoe to shine as over 1100 people from over 35 countries will descend upon the city April 8-14, 2018 for the 43rd Mountain Travel Symposium (MTS), the largest and longest running annual gathering of mountain travel professionals in the world.
Meeting planners, tourism bureaus, executives from ski resorts and lodging properties and many more will take part in the symposium hosted by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA), Heavenly Mountain Resort, Harrah's Lake Tahoe and Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 04/05/2018 - 6:18pmIf you had walked onto the LTCC campus on Tuesday, April 3, you would have never guessed that there were 325 6th grade youth and 220 agency and volunteer workers throughout the corridors, all learning information on how and why to keep themselves safe from drugs. “Choices, what are yours?” was the theme of our efforts in keeping our youth drug free. With the country’s attitudes and norms about drug use changing, times are even more difficult for our kids.
New South Lake Tahoe resort plans unveiled
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/28/2018 - 7:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 2008 it was known as "The Hole" after financing dried up for a redevelopment project, bordered by Highway 50, Stateline Avenue, Friday Avenue and Cedar Avenue. A cement hole with rebar stayed until the project area could get under control of one owner through bankruptcy. In 2013, Owens Financial obtained a building permit to start spending $400 million to build over 27,000 square feet of commercial space along Highway 50. This was followed by the Zalanta Resort opening at Highway 50 and Friday Avenue in 2017.
Aging and Caregiving educational series in South Lake Tahoe

The Family Caregiver Support Program of the El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency is pleased to present a free “Aging and Caregiving” educational series in South Lake Tahoe. This series will be held weekly on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. beginning April 16, 2018, and ending May 21, 2018, at Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.
The educational series will give instruction and support for people who provide care for a family member or friend aged 60 years or greater.
