Al Roker of NBC’s Today Show fame, will discuss his passion, interest and concerns about climate change, as well as his storied career as keynote speaker at Operation Sierra Storm, the annual television meteorologists’ conference at Lake Tahoe. The public is invited to tune in via Facebook to watch Roker on Monday, January 25.
Operation Sierra Storm (OSS) in an annual weather conference held on the South Shore. Due to health and safety restrictions, the public is unable to attend Monday's event in person, but they are welcome to participate via Facebook.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?
Move it online, of course.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bubbles & Bowties, the adult prom that annually raises money for juvenile diabetes, will be held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel on January 25, 2020.
Normally held in October, organizers of Bubbles & Bowties decided to move the popular event for two reasons: Problems with their original venue and a desire to not do a fundraiser near any others in town.

It’s that sense of doing good for one another that keeps many of us hopeful about the future. I’m happily involved in different aspects of our community and that part of my life is why I feel so grateful and blessed. Tuesday’s Drug Store Project for our sixth-grade youth was a testament to the compassion and dedication of our agencies, businesses, service clubs, and community members for the good of its people.

Since 2004, middle school students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) have gone through the Drug Store Project (DSP), a day-long comprehensive drug prevention program designed to educate youth about the dangers of substance use and abuse.

New South Lake Tahoe communications system; Price tag close to $4M

1) There are three systems working totally separately: the police, fire and public works departments;
2) Trees have grown since the system was installed 53 years ago, now blocking signals through the town;
3) Having functioning radio frequencies near water is challenging.

With the country’s attitudes and norms about drug use changing, times are even more difficult for our kids.

South Lake Tahoe nonprofits benefit from STAR; $15,000 given away
Submitted by paula on Wed, 12/27/2017 - 6:18pmThe South Tahoe Alliance of Resorts (STAR) donated $15,000 this holiday season to three community organizations, with Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Christmas Cheer, and Live Violence Free each receiving $5,000.
STAR is comprised of Edgewood Companies, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s/Harveys Lake Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Lakeside Inn and Casino, MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, and Vail Resorts. The companies work collaboratively on community economic and sustainability issues, including a charity component.

The annual awards recognize lodging employees and properties that best symbolize the quality service of the industry.
The “My Tahoe” program was born back in 2013 when the property went independent as a Premier Hotel Collection member, and hotel leadership had the opportunity to reimagine guest experience.

Over 300 community members attended to celebrate the winners of seven awards that honor outstanding South Shore businesses, organizations and individuals for civic contributions, tourism experiences, customer service and entrepreneurial achievements.

This gala event honors businesses, organizations, and individuals for civic contributions, tourism experiences, customer service, and entrepreneurial achievements. Lake Tahoe Marathon events around the lake; Some road closures

Please note, State Route 89 will be closed to vehicle traffic in each direction around Emerald Bay from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 15 during the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Motorists should be aware of runners along the highway from Homewood to South Lake Tahoe.

Public workshop on US 50 / South Shore Revitalization Project

The public has another opportunity to give feedback on the design of the U.S. 50/South Shore Community Revitalization Project on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Formerly known as the Loop Road Project, this one seeks to divert Highway 50 from its current location near the intersection with Pioneer Trail and move traffic behind Raleys and the casinos, then reuniting with the current location of Highway 50 in Stateline, Nevada with a roundabout.
