Vail Resorts, Inc. announced Monday they have entered into a definitive merger agreement to acquire Peak Resorts, Inc. Through the acquisition, Vail will add 17 ski areas from the United States to its network of resorts.

The Peak resorts are located near major metropolitan areas, including New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Columbus, St. Louis, Kansas City and Louisville.

New Hampshire: Attitash Mountain Resort, Wildcat Mountain and Crotched Mountain

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Since 1978 Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care (LTWC) has been serving the community with a facility inside the home of founders, Tom and Cheryl Millham. Their long history of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing Tahoe’s injured and orphaned wildlife has gained national attention.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The winter of 2019 was a good one for both South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County retailers, ski resorts, restaurants and others whose businesses collect sales tax, including online retailers selling goods in the area.

The first sales tax report for 2019 has been released, with $2,580,475 in gross receipts in South Lake Tahoe during Q4/Q1 and $11,976,387 in the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County. During the same two-quarter period the year before, tax revenues were $2,390,631 and $9,925,645 respectively.

We’ve finally settled into a spectacular Tahoe summer. Like a shooting star, summer is fleeting, with the Fourth of July already in our review mirror. With all the outdoor recreation that summer affords us here at Lake Tahoe, here’s one more experience worth noting.

If you’re looking for a stunningly beautiful bike ride or a perfect pathway on which to take a walk, the new East Shore Tahoe Trail is unparalleled. Dignitaries recently gathered to celebrate the trail’s grand opening at the end of June. The path is a three-mile link between the south end of Incline Village and Sand Harbor.

STATELINE, Nev. - Two local residents were arrested early Tuesday after a months-long narcotics investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Street Enforcement Team and State of Nevada Tri Net Investigators.

Timothy Hecox, 61-years-old, and Holly Anderson, 50-years-old, both of Stateline, Nevada, were arrested after a search warrant was served at 169 Faris Court #8 on July 17, 2019. They were booked for trafficking of narcotics and several other drug-related charges.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Perhaps you know of them as mother-in-law units, tiny houses in the backyard or an extra apartment above a garage for renters. The term Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) has become a popular one in describing these types of housing as the affordable housing conversation turns towards solutions.

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Another telephone scam is being reported to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) and they want to make sure residents, especially the senior population, are informed.

This latest scam is much like others in the past. Unidentified callers are telling the person answering the phone they have a warrant issued from the FBI. The scammer is seeking large sums of money, generally $2,000 to $,5000, be sent via the mail in the form of pre-paid gift cards.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - At the beginning of the 30th annual American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe, the Tahoe Douglas Rotary club honored the CEO of America Century Investments, Jonathan Thomas. On the first tee in between the threesomes of Steph Curry, Justin Timberlake, Tony Romo and AJ Hark, Jordy Nelson, Aaron Rodgers, the local Rotary club presented Thomas with a Paul Harris Fellow.

The award was created by Rotary International for recognition of significant acts of service and generosity.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In 53 days Kelly Smith Cassidy will be representing the South Lake Tahoe community at the communal city in the Black Rock Desert, Burning Man. Tabbed as a culture of possibility and a network of dreamers and doers, organizers select artists from around the world who best personifies their mission.

The Sierra Boulevard street project is progressing and the next phase between Barbara Avenue and Alma Avenue is requiring El Dorado County to temporarily close Barbara Avenue until August 15.

The project consists of full roadway reconstruction and pedestrian and drainage improvements along Sierra Boulevard from Palmira Blvd. to Barbara Ave.

The Barbara Avenue closure is necessary to ensure motorist and worker safety. Prior to July 1 the road was kept open on weekends and other non-construction hours but that will no longer be the case.

Today, 402 people volunteered along the shoreline of Lake Tahoe to protect this national treasure. As part of a lakewide cleanup organized by the League to Save Lake Tahoe (Keep Tahoe Blue), participants removed 1240.25 pounds of litter that would have harmed the Lake’s ecology.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A promise made to the community when they voted to pass Measure F in 2014 is coming to fruition after Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) was notified they are receiving $8.8M in matching funds for the modernization of their campus. This sets the stage for $17.6 million to be spent on modernization and upgrades to LTCC’s main building.

The Sierra Tahoe Children's Theater is presenting The Little Mermaid Jr. during two performances in the TADA Theatre at South Tahoe High this weekend.

Local youth are staring in all of your favorite roles in the musical, The Little Mermaid Jr. It is based on the animated 1989 Disney film and classic Hans Christian Anderson story of the same name about a mermaid who dreams of the world above the sea and gives up her voice to find love.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - June 26, 2019 was the first day of the year categorized as "High Fire Danger" in the Lake Tahoe Basin, prompting two area fire districts to impose fire restrictions by suspending all recreational campfires and open burning.

On June 17 CAL FIRE suspended residential burn permits in the Tahoe Basin, followed by today's new restrictions by North Tahoe Fire Protection District (NTFPD) and Meeks Bay Fire Protection District (MBFPD).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Wilder Than Wild: Fires, Forest and the Future will be shown at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center amphitheater on Friday, June 28 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Besides the free showing of the film there will be a panel discussion that includes forest management experts, public land management agencies, local fire districts, local law enforcement, Tahoe Network of Fire Adapted Communities, Liberty Utilities and more.

STATELINE, Nev. - Douglas County Redevelopment Area No. 2 (RDA2) at Stateline is moving forward despite a move to have it dissolved by Douglas County Commissioner Dave Nelson.

There was an overflow crowd at the commissioner's June 20 meeting at Lake Tahoe. Many of those who could not fit in the meeting room were accommodated with audio feed in the judges' chambers and the bottom floor of the parking garage.

The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® partnered with Vitalant, previously
United Blood Services, to host a Blood Drive on Monday, June 17. This event was open to the public. Realtors® and members of the community made appointments and dropped in to donate. There was a total of 22 donors, translating into 66 lives that can be saved.

“This is something that really only takes minutes of your time and is free to give. I’m happy to donate each year and glad to know that it will impact someone’s life in a positive way,” said Kili Ongoy, Chair of the Community Involvement Committee.
