Tallac High, and South Tahoe Middle School. The students and their families were treated to breakfast as the awards were given to the deserving students.

Douglas County teams removing debris from river channels ahead of spring flooding
Submitted by paula on Wed, 04/17/2019 - 3:14pmWith warming temperatures and melting snow, Douglas County is reminding residents of the potential for some minor spring flooding in the months to come. With the spring run-off, citizens could expect to see some road closures on arterial roads such as Mottsville, Centerville Lane, Muller Lane and Genoa Lane.
In preparation for flooding, the Douglas County Stormwater Division has been removing flood debris in river channels with the Carson Valley Conservation District, Carson Water Subconservancy and Nevada Division of Water Resources.

In the meantime, Adventure Mountain owners Linda and Jim Mueller sponsored the Bread & Broth Monday Meal on September 10th as a way of offering members of the local community a fun evening of excellent food, social mixing and a welcoming environment.
Soroptimists sew dresses for girls around the world
Submitted by paula on Sun, 02/04/2018 - 9:38pmJoining the efforts to give every girl in the world a dress, local members of Soroptimists International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) have been sewing away. 100 dresses were made in South Lake Tahoe during two sewing sessions to send to Cuba, Mexico and other points around the globe.
SITS President Diane Imbach has "Dress a Girl Around the World" as her focus this year, and the members have been participating with sewing parties to fulfill her goals.
Man who brought kidnapped woman to South Lake Tahoe spending 40 years in prison

Muller, a 40-year-old disbarred lawyer from Orangevale who often spent time at his family cabin in the South Lake Tahoe area, was sentenced today to 40 years in prison for the kidnapping Denise Hoskins at the Vallejo home she shared with her boyfriend on March 23, 2015.

Lake Tahoe road and weather report

A Flood Watch expires in South Lake Tahoe at 9:15 a.m. Friday and the Winter Storm is still in effect until 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
Weather:
Today - Rain, possibly mixed with snow. High near 43. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Rain still falling in South Lake Tahoe, snow moving in at upper elevations
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/09/2017 - 6:52pmRain is still falling in South Lake Tahoe but chain controls are starting to go up at upper elevations as snow begins to fall. Up to 1"-2" more precipitation is still expected Thursday night at the 6,200 ft elevation.
Lake level rain is forecast to end Friday with a winter storm warning in place until Saturday morning at 1:00 a.m. 4"-7" of snow is expected in South Lake Tahoe during that time.
Nevada starts to clean up after floods; Roads remain closed including Kingsbury Grade
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/09/2017 - 6:56pmMany roads in Nevada were under water Sunday after torrential rains went through, causing rivers and streams to flood. In Reno alone 50 roads were closed due to high water levels, and all bridges over the Truckee River in Reno were also closed.
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) spent the day evaluating the state's roads affected by floods and rain. Multiple state roads in the greater Truckee Meadows and Carson Valley areas remain closed, including those in the Sparks industrial area and areas of Reno, including East McCarran Boulevard and South Virginia Street.
South Lake Tahoe ranks first in most expensive place in California to spend New Year's Eve

The region is a very popular one with skiing, concerts, and bars and restaurants where can ring in the new year from.
According to a recent survey by LosAngelesHotels.org, the average overnight stay in SLT is $345 for the most affordable room. They took the rate for the cheapest available double room at a 3-star hotel (or above) at 20 popular destinations for the holiday in the state.

Soroptimists honor South Tahoe Middle School students

The students had a topic based on their grade level: seventh graders wrote about "Privacy vs. National Security," while the eighth graders were challenged with writing about who the 2016 female Presidential candidate should be, and why.

Man arrested in South Lake Tahoe indicted on kidnapping charge
Submitted by paula on Thu, 10/01/2015 - 8:49pmA federal grand jury returned an indictment today against Matthew D. Muller, a 38-year-old disbarred lawyer from Orangevale, charging him with one count of kidnapping.
Muller is charged with kidnapping physical therapist Denise Hoskins at the Vallejo home she shared with her boyfriend on March 23 and keeping her captive for two days before dropping her off near her mother's house in Huntington Beach. He allegedly demanded a $15,000 ransom.

They are taking their complaints to the July 2 meeting of the Douglas County Commissioners led by local residents Steve and Mary Walker who filed an appeal right after approval of the planning commission.
Multiple Fires sparked In Carson Valley; 7,000 without power

This just in from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department: On June 27, 2015, at approximately 6:17 p.m., the East Fork Fire District in Douglas County responded to a report of several wildland fires along the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
There have been reports of six fires along the west side of the Carson Valley.
East Fork Fire, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) have responded to the multiple fires and are working to access each of the fires.
Barton Auxiliary giver $13,500 to local students

Dublin Police had a warrant for the arrest of Matthew Daniel Muller, a suspect in an attempted home invasion robbery that resulted in the assault of the homeowner.
Muller, a resident of Orangevale, CA, was found in his family vacation home on Genoa Avenue in the county portion of the South Shore.
Liberty Utilities to develop two solar projects in Nevada

Liberty Utilities announced Friday that they filed an application with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) proposing to build two separate solar projects that would be built in Nevada and provide renewable energy to Liberty’s customers via NV Energy’s transmission lines.
Soroptimists of South Lake Tahoe gives out $25,000 in grants

Numerous power outages around the Lake Tahoe region

With winds at 35-50 mph and much stronger gusts over the ridges, utility officials would like to remind customers of the following safety measures.
- Always treat low hanging and downed power lines as if they were energized.
- Call 911 or notify Liberty Utilities’ toll-free emergency number at 1-844-245-6868 if you see downed power lines or damaged electrical equipment.
