SnowGlobe advanced purchase tickets almost sold out
Submitted by paula on Mon, 10/20/2014 - 7:49pmThe third SnowGlobe music festival is slated for December 29-30, 2014 in South Lake Tahoe and tickets are moving quickly. Festival organizers announced today that their advanced purchase three day passes are almost gone.
Concert goers can purchase a three day pass with one payment, or have the payments broken up over a period of time.

November 1, 2014 - 1:00pm On August 26, 2014, South Lake Tahoe resident Matthew Marhefka was in a serious dirt bike accident and suffered a broken neck which resulted in his being paralyzed from the neck down.
He recently had neck surgery and the results were successful. His spine is now stable but due to the severe spinal cord injury he remains paralyzed from the neck down. According to family friends, the doctors have hope that he could possibly regain feeling and or movement to his hands and arms.

October 12, 2014 - 9:30am Residents and businesses located in Nevada and California have joined efforts to remove graffiti and trash from Lake Tahoe which is known for its pristine water and incredible natural setting. On Sunday, October 12, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., organizers invite friends and supporters of Lake Tahoe to participate in this special multi-state effort. They will meet at 9:30 a.m. at Sand Harbor for a safety talk, graffiti and trash removal instructions and supplies.
Benefit for South Lake Tahoe toddler diagnosed with Leukemia

October 16, 2014 - 6:00pm A fundraiser has been scheduled for the three year old daughter of a South Lake Tahoe family who was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Mackenzie Bogart needs the help of our community as she and her family prepare for the next step in her care.
The Bogarts have been long-time Tahoe skiers and snowboarders. Their four children all compete in the local USASA Snowboard Circuit and are dedicated to providing a recreational outlet for their children.

It's always a lot of fun for dogs and their owners to take part in one of South Lake Tahoe's favorite events, the Mutt Strut Poker Run. Join the Animal Coalition of Tahoe as they put on the 10th annual event on Sunday, October 12.
Walk with your dog along a lakefront route, play poker and try to win a host of prizes. There will be raffles, music, games and fun for two and four
legged friends.
One hand is $10, three are $20, or get two hands and a T-Shirt for $30 with advance purchase.

The festive and lively evening featured nine bartenders who were challenged to create a drink that featured Tahoe Blue Vodka. Contestants included Stephen Camp (Heavenly), Gary Gramprie (LewMarNel’s), Ian Sievwright (MacDuff’s ), Alice Schmalenberger (Mc P’s Pub ), Ken Newbold (MontBleu), Josh Thompson (Nepheles ), Erick Martinez (Riva Grill), Mara Milich (Sonney’s BBQ ), and Rob Morse (The Boathouse).

Last year's event was canceled due to heavy smoke from the Rim Fire, and this year's event was threatened by the King Fire. Winds kept the smoke at bay until the event was over.
The City made the event free this year and everyone seemed to enjoy that fact. There were vendors, food, music, car racing, stunt pilots and several planes to look at.

Over 1,200 people attend Sample the Sierra in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 09/01/2014 - 6:38amWith blue skies and warm temperatures, many people were out enjoying everything there is to do in South Lake Tahoe this holiday weekend. Many events from a carnival to fireworks were held, giving people plenty to choose from.
One of these events was the 5th Annual Sample the Sierra Farm to Fork Festival. The main event was held at Bijou Community park on Sunday, with over 1,200 people enjoying food and drink from the region. There were 16 booths of local food, wine, beer and spirits as well as an artisan marketplace, live music and a cooking contest with a mystery box of ingredients.

The highlight of the day will be the Annual Labor Day Fireworks show. The show features a simultaneous music broadcast that can be heard on local stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL - AM 1490. Show begins at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are visible from all over town.

50th anniversary of National Preservation Act celebrated
Submitted by paula on Sat, 08/23/2014 - 11:32pmAttendees of the Valhalla Art, Music and Theater Festival learned how to use a cross-cut saw, the primary tool still used today to keep trails open and accessible in the Wilderness. The event celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 National Wilderness Preservation Act.
U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit staff provided saws, logs and gloves and guided over 50 participants of all ages as they cut through a 10-inch log and received the souvenir slice branded with the 50th Wilderness Anniversary logo.
Sand Harbor concert celebrates peace with music from around the globe

'Forever Dreams for Veterans' to raise funds for military brain injuries

Almost once an hour a military veteran commits suicide in the United States according the the Department of Veterans Affairs and among those on active duty the number is still sobering, one a day.
In an effort to bring the plight of American military members suffering from Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) to the forefront, a Broadway like show and wellness festival are coming to South Lake Tahoe.

Lake Tahoe musicians Niall McGuinness, Trey Stone and John Shipley will entertain the beach crowd during Tahoe Arts Project's Music on the Beach on Thursday, August 21 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The beach at Tahoe Lakeshore Lodge & Spa will be transformed into a sea of beach chairs, bottles of wine and appetizers as locals flock to watch the musicians will helping TAP raise money.
A donation of $10 per person will be collected at the entrance which is located by the front door of the Lodge.
Refreshments will be sold as well as raffle tickets.

The 2nd Annual Meyers Mountain Bike Festival will take place on August 10, 2014 in the Divided Sky parking lot, located at 3200 US Highway 50. The festival kicks off with a “Triple Crown Ride” covering 30+ miles and a 5,200 elevation gain. Riders should arrive at the Divided Sky at 7:30 a.m. to register for the ride. A $25 donation will support the Tahoe Area Mountain Biking Association (TAMBA), and Clif Bar will have water and fueling stations along the ride.

Each year, during the second weekend of August, the lawns and buildings at the historic Baldwin and Pope Estates turn back the clocks to a time of jazz, prohibition, prosperity and innovation.
The annual Gatsby Festival will be held at Tallac Historic Site August 9-10. August 9, 2014 - 7:00pm The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is excited to present a "Jump-Jive" dance party on Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. in the historic Ballroom in the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W. King Street. This Speakeasy Dance Party celebrates music, dance, and art. Tickets are $10 and admission includes light refreshments, a no-host bar, the killer seven-piece band Brass Knuckles, original artwork, and prizes. All are welcome; those age 21 and over need to bring an ID. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., and the dance band plays from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Washoe Tribe shares their culture and history during Wa-She-Shu It'Deh festival
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/27/2014 - 10:15pmThe Washoe Tribe spent their summers in Lake Tahoe thousands of years ago, and this weekend they shared their history, food and customs with the public during the annual Wa-SheShu It'Deh festival this weekend.
They currently live in four reservation communities in Northern Nevada and California: Woodfords, Dresslerville, Stewart and Carson City as well as in the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony. Members from the tribe came together at Valhalla in dance and music, told stories and shared generations of history.

August 2, 2014 - 12:00pm The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," in collaboration with Carson City, is proud to present five of several bands at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair in Fuji Park on Saturday, August 2. "Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.
The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.

August 1, 2014 - 5:00pm The 2014 "Jazz & Beyond - Carson City Music Festival" will open with a "Mad Hatter Garden Party," a ticketed event in the backyard of the Nevada Governor's Mansion, on Friday, August 1, from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. The gate opens at 5:00 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m. The party features music by the Corky Bennett Trio, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. The Governor's Mansion is at 606 Mountain St., Carson City, and entrance is by the Robinson St. entrance.

South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic brings ‘Freedom of the Forties’ to the Tahoe Keys Marina this year on July 25 and 26.
This year's theme is ‘Freedom of the Forties’ which honors U.S. military and pays homage to antique and classic boats of the forties. World War II veterans are provided free admission to the event, and U.S. military receive discounts on event admission.
