Heavenly Mountain Resort at Lake Tahoe has named James Grant as its director of Mountain Operations. Grant was promoted from his role as director of Lift Operations. Meanwhile, Heavenly’s director of Snow Surfaces, Jim Larmore, has been named the new director of Mountain Operations at Northstar California Resort.

Tahoe resorts, business outfit vehicle fleets with Lake Tahoe license plate

New Lake Tahoe license plates are appearing on the vehicle fleets of major ski resorts and businesses in the Tahoe Basin, as support for the Tahoe plate program in California and Nevada continues this winter.

Heavenly Ski Resort helped launch the program in 1996 and has 140 vehicles plated for Tahoe. Northstar Resort, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, and Tahoe Dave’s Skis and Boards have ordered new Tahoe plates.

Heavenly and Northstar to open more terrain this weekend

With last week's winter storms dropping nearly four feet of snow at Lake Tahoe's south shore, Heavenly Mountain Resort will open more trails and terrain beginning Saturday. New storm to arrive on Sunday; ski resorts prepare for brisk business

Winter weather continues through today in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Ski resorts report up to 2 feet of snow from the system which arrived Friday and continues today. The National Weather Service in Reno reports that a second and much colder storm will move into the area on Sunday into Monday, dropping temperatures and bringing more snow. Washoe Drive Fire burns 26 homes, 3,900 acres, Highway 395 between Carson City and Reno still closed

Officials reported this morning that the Washoe Drive Fire destroyed 26 homes, and has currently consumed 3,900 acres.
At a 9 a.m. press conference, officials reported the blaze is 50 percent contained, and that 700 firefighters are working to extinguish hot spots in advance of the high wind that are forecast for this afternoon.
There were 20 homes reported lost last night, but in the light of day, personnel working the fire were able to get a better count of the structures that burned.

Fire spreads from firebox into attic of South Tahoe home

A house fire that started in a box in back of a fireplace and spread into the attic of a Cold Creek Trail home was knocked down Thursday night. No one was hurt in the blaze, which was largely confined to the attic and ceiling, said Lake Valley Fire Protection District Chief Gareth Harris.
The house, located at 2497 Cold Creek Trail is not habitable but still standing. The fire was reported at around 7 p.m. Estimated damage to the home is between $75,000 to $100,000, Harris said.

Northstar California did up things well Tuesday (name change, used to be "at-Tahoe") by officially opening its new multimillion dollar Zephyr lodge at the top of Zephyr lift and a new chairlift, the Promised Land Express. The new quad chair services two new trails. This completes a spending program of $30 million on upgrades, trails and support activities at the Lake Tahoe resort.

Heavenly Mountain Resort gets favorable environmental certification

Heavenly Mountain Resort has announced that its new multi-million-dollar Tamarack Lodge received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Tamarack Lodge is the first LEED-certified, on-mountain building at Lake Tahoe. It will serve as the blueprint for the construction of Northstar California's new on-mountain lodge and as a guide for future Vail Resorts development.
