LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ski on the trails made famous in the 1960 Winter Olympics during a free ski day at Ed Z’berg Sugar Pine Point State Park on Saturday, February 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
California State Parks and the Sierra State Parks Foundation are bringing back groomed Nordic skiing at the park and have invited the public to enjoy the sport in the same spot the biathlon and cross-country events of the Olympics were held.
The latest round of winter storms has brought in plenty of fresh snow for the park to offer this popular pastime.

Sierra House Elementary students move to full-day schedules at STMS/Al Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Since a fire destroyed a section of Sierra House Elementary on November 11, 2018, students and staff have been dealing with the smoke damage, relocation, and minimum school days.
Just before the winter break classes were held at the Al Tahoe Elementary school site, home of the Boys & Girls Club, but that plan will now change starting January 14, 2018.

Boat capsizes in Topaz Lake; One dead, one missing

UPDATE 1/13/19 12:30 p.m. - Douglas County Sheriff's Office has released the names of those involved in the boating accident. One boater, Scott Wise, was able to get to shore while a search began for the other two occupants. Rescue teams located the body of Burt Pederson of Sparks, Nevada, a man in his 40s according to DCSO. Jesse Gregory, also of Sparks, is still missing and presumed to have drowned.
Wise was treated at the Carson Valley Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thousands of music fans and dozens of performers are headed to South Lake Tahoe for the 8th annual SnowGlobe Music Festival from December 29-31. Before they get here, hundreds of workers are spending many hours preparing the scene from the delivery and installation of stages, tents, electrical cables, ski jumps, trailers, vehicles and port-a-potties.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The snow has fallen and the kids are out of school so it's time for many to hit the Sierra. Skiers and boarders have the slopes but where do sledders and those just wanting to play go?
Many stop on the highway and pull onto the shoulder (well, sort of) and head to the patch of snow. This behavior is causing problems for law enforcement, other drivers and is an accident waiting to happen.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Emma, the world’s first digital mountain assistant, announced she is vailable to guide guests at nine Vail Resort properties, including Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado; Park City in Utah; Whistler Blackcomb in Canada; and Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in Tahoe. Guests can text Emma their questions at 77477.

Judge halts ban on South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals, for now

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Even though there is no ban on vacation rentals until 2021 in South Lake Tahoe, a component to control occupancy was to be in effect this month but a judge today put a halt to that.
