Local students honored by DAR Chapter
Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 11/25/2019 - 7:56amOn Thursday evening, November 21, members of Lake Tahoe Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and guests gathered to honor two local high school students with the prestigious DAR Good Citizen Award.
This award has been presented to deserving high school students since 1934. However, the award has never been presented in the greater Lake Tahoe Basin because, until February 2019, there was no DAR chapter in the area.
Daughters of the American Revolution membership surpasses one million

Member number one million is Amy Dickinson from Freetown, New York. Amy is the author of the popular advice column, “Ask Amy.” Her journalism career began as a freelancing position with the Chicago Tribune. Her personal life has involved many challenges, including her father’s abandonment of the family when she was a child.
9-11 ceremony to be held at American Legion in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community and visitors are invited to join members of American Legion Post 795 and the American Legion Auxiliary at a commemorative ceremony to honor the victims and first responders of September 11, 2001.
Its been 18 years since a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda were conducted against the United States on that Tuesday morning in New York, Virginia an Pennsylvania, killing almost 3,000 people.

South Lake Tahoe woman honored by Daughters of the American Revolution on her new citizenship

Jessica Sosa Torres, a longtime resident of South Lake Tahoe and a graduate of South Tahoe High School, is now officially a citizen of the United States. Members of her family attended her Sacramento swearing-in ceremony and were present at the South Lake Tahoe DAR celebration on March 19, 2019.
South Lake Tahoe twins headed to Boys and Girls State

For the first time organizers can remember, twins have been selected to represent the community in the unique and exciting government-in-action learning programs which teach youth how to be knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy and patriotism.

It took just 72 minutes to change the lives of millions of people on September 11, 2001.
In commemoration of that day and the lives lost with attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, members of South Lake Tahoe’s American Legion Post 795 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a ceremony on Sept. 11, 2017 at the American Legion Hall starting at 11:00 a.m.
The community and first responders are invited.
El Dorado County DA announces passing of Deputy DA Katie Dobler

"The People of the State of California, the residents of El Dorado County, and the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office have lost a passionate and relentless advocate for justice," said District Attorney Vern Pierson. "Katie’s family, friends, and coworkers have lost a loving daughter, sister, and friend who was fiercely loyal and devoted."

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Locals and visitors are welcome to join the American Legion Post 795 of South Lake Tahoe as they hold a commemorative ceremony honoring the victims and first responders of the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
The 11:00 a.m. ceremony will be held at the Legion Hall located at 2748 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Post members and the Ladies Auxiliary will also be providing refreshments after the ceremony.
