10th annual New Year's Day plunge into Lake Tahoe

For the tenth consecutive year, a group of friends have jumped into Lake Tahoe to celebrate the New Year, rain, snow or shine.

What started as a group of five South Lake Tahoe friends jumping in to the lake in 2009 has grown, and to celebrate 2018, 70 took the plunge at Camp Richardson.

According to Kelly Sheehan, all of the plungers agreed that this year the weather was practically balmy.

The event at Zephyr Cove Resort featured more than 400 water warriors, many who dressed up in costumes for the event. Participants either ran, walked or swam in the 38-degree lake, which has experienced a rapid rise in its shoreline due to heavy snowfall this winter.
