The Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, March 19 just got safer with the addition of a team made up of Douglas County Sheriff's Deputies and Explorer Scouts. Dubbed Frosty 5-0, the group will be swimming in the annual event for Northern Nevada Special Olympics at Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe starting at 9:00 a.m.
Pictured with some of the “Frosty Five-O” is our proud team leader, Special Olympics Athlete and fifth grader from CC Meneley Elementary School, Tyler Hendrix (right front). Tyler has his two brothers Rylan (6) and Calvin (15) by his side to support both Special Olympics and their brother.
This event also sets the stage for the upcoming Law Enforcement Torch Relay Run benefiting Special Olympics. That run takes place Friday, June 3, 2016 and Tyler will be Douglas County Sheriff’s Office honored guest running with deputy sheriffs and together the team will carry the torch down Highway 395.
If anyone is interested in participating, please check out the website at www.polarplungenorcalnv.com/southlaketahoe/ for more information.
