If you've been to the Town of Genoa you know how challenging it can be to access the internet and check your email due to spotty, at best, reception. This will be a thing of the past as the town just received $20,000 from the Douglas County Commissions on August 6 to fund their Main Street Wi-Fi Project.

Glenn Litton, 47, of Carson City, Nevada, pleaded guilty today to aggravated identity theft arising from false statements he made in an application for a United States Passport, United States Attorney Benjamin B. Wagner announced.

Burning Man is always changing, and this year is no exception.

An El Dorado County Sheriff's Deputy, thinking he heard the sound of fireworks, responded to the area of El Dorado Hills Library on July 4 at about 11:00 p.m. Checking the area of Tilden Drive and Avellano Drive, he found the fireworks sounding like they were coming from a residential backyard. With the assistance of witnesses and Serrano Security, the deputy located several persons lighting and shooting off illegal fireworks from the back of a house in the 3800 block of Tilden Drive.

Markleville residents are faced with the possibility of having to evacuate if the Washington Fire comes towards their town.

Skyland residents recently took part in a neighborhood fire drill, being told they had to evacuate their homes in 10 minutes.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department is warning residents of a series of scams that have been targeted at residents. Even though the recent reports have been in Douglas County, all people should be aware as the criminals know no county, or state lines.

After working a total of 637 1/2 years for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD), 25 teachers, staff members and administrators were recognized in a ceremony Tuesday evening.

LTUSD and the Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation hosted the reception.

El Dorado County Sheriff's deputies arrested five Bay Area residents on Thursay who are accused of being part of a counterfeit credit card ring.

On April 30, 2015 at about 1:00 p.m., deputies responded to Red Hawk Casino for a fraudulent use of a credit card. Red Hawk casino security reported two persons inside the casino attempted to use forged or stolen credit cards in an attempt to obtain cash. One was described as an adult Hispanic man and the other as an adult African American woman.

South Lake Tahoe resident Johnathan Alberto Lemus, 27, was arrested on Saturday, April 11 on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police reports, Lemus allegedly stole a tip jar from Tahoe Bowl and left the business located on Fremont Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The Police Department was called and as they were taking the report the suspect was spotted by a High Sierra Patrol security officer at nearby Inn by the Lake.

Two men were attacked outside of The Bottle Shop in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday evening, leaving one seriously injured.

On February 25 at approximately 7 p.m., two local men were rushed in an unprovoked attack by three unidentified men outside the business located at 3950 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

One of the victims, a 36-year-old hispanic man, sustained significant head injuries including lacerations to his face after having been beaten by the three suspects with fists. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno with non-life threatening injuries.

When the women competing on the Amgen Tour of California make their two-day stop in South Lake Tahoe, hundreds of local volunteers will be there to make sure the even is successful.

The two Lake Tahoe stages cover a total of 124 miles with the first on Friday, May 8, circumnavigating the Lake; the second is two-laps through South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, Calif., the town seven miles west of South Shore on Saturday, May 9.

All too often, we hear from people who have been victimized by some sort of scam. Sippy Lal, 61 was arrested in 2012 along with co-defendants Mamta Sharma and Rani Singh-Lal on charges they ran an elaborate immigration-fraud scheme involving foreign nationals from India who paid money to have a sham marriage in order to get into the country. In January of 2015, all undocumented workers in California will have their first chance to have a driver's license. The California legislature passed Assembly Bill 60 in 2013 and since then, officials have been preparing the processes people will need to follow.

Under the bill, all undocumented workers living in California 16 years of age or older can receive driver’s licenses if they complete driver’s education and training, and also pass California’s written and driving tests.

In January, Governor Brown called for California residents to drop their water usage by 20% due to the drought. In July, urban water usage in the state was down by 7.5%. White this isn't the requested 20%, it still represents 17 billion gallons of water conserved. That is the equivalent of 25,755 Olympic-sized swimming pools or enough water for 1.7 billion people each to take a 5-minute shower.
