Gaming revenue on the South Shore shows slight decline

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of December was less than one percent off of their totals for the same month in 2016. The $960,384,350 in net win by the state's casinos was just .44 percent over from last year according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

On the South Shore, the $18,489,949 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was down 1.24 percent from 2016. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $9,333,656, up 9.97 percent.

Transient arrested after man stabbed at South Lake Tahoe bus stop

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF -A transient man is behind bars this evening after allegedly stabbing a 27-year-old man at the South Y Transit center.

At 5:33 p.m. Saturday, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a call of a stabbing at the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd and Emerald Bay Road.

Upon arrival they found Kiefer Chriss, 57, being held down on the ground by some Good Samaritans and a 27-year-old male stabbing victim.

Directors, actors, designers wanted for Spring Theatre at LTCC

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - Calling all directors, actors, and theatrical designers! This Spring, rather than just one theatrical offering, Lake Tahoe Community College’s (LTCC) Duke Theatre will instead be home to four one-act plays helmed by either a student or community director. The four selected directors will get the chance to choose their sets, lighting, and costumes, and will be given full reign and expert support to create a brilliant theatrical event. The final result will be a two-week run of performances in LTCC’s Duke Theatre with all four one-act plays featured each night.

Phish returns to Lake Tahoe for two nights during outdoor concert series

Phish’s 2018 Summer Tour begins with two performances at the Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys on July 17 and 18, and culminates with the band’s traditional summer ending shows in September at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado.

Tahoe Arts Project brings Cascada de Flores to the South Shore

Cascada de Flores brings the nostalgic song and traditions of Mexico and its neighbors into simple and beautiful arrangements that allow space for both improvisation and pure expression.

Opening night of Thoroughly Modern Millie canceled due to flu

Opening night of South Tahoe High's production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, originally slated for Friday, January 19, has been canceled due to the flu.

15 student cast members are ill, and with the that being an unusually high amount of students absent from school, the director Liz Niven had to cancel the show.

They hope to be able to go on with show Saturday, January 20 and add another show the following weekend.

If you have already purchased tickets for Friday, you will be able to exchange.

Keith Urban headed to Lake Tahoe for outdoor summer concert series

Country music superstar Keith Urban will be stopping by the South Shore this summer during the 2018 Lake Tahoe Summer Concert Series at Harveys Outdoor Arena.

He and Kelsea Ballerini, an American country pop singer and songwriter, will stop by during Urban's "GRAFFITI U" tour with two shows, July 21 and 22. Tickets for the 7:00 p.m. show will be from $59.50 to $139.50.

Urban announced Wednesday the new tour "GRAFFITI U" dates that will coincide with his new album of the same name.

Carson City dog headed to Westminster Dog Show

Carson City’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management, Stacey Belt, has a couple of very special Spinoni Italiano dogs. One of them, as Stacey puts it — a bearded Italian girl with bushy eyebrows named Adele, will be competing in the famous Westminster dog show in February.

NHP: 81-year-old Carson City woman dies in Saturday crash

A two vehicle crash Saturday morning on South Carson Street at the intersection of Koontz Lane has claimed the life of an 81-year-old Carson City resident, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Rosemary Frenzel Stroup died from injuries sustained in the crash that happened at around 8:50 a.m. Saturday. According to NHP, troopers responded to the serious injury crash on South Carson Street at the intersection with Koontz Lane.

Vehicle fatalities decline, pedestrian and cyclist deaths rise on Nevada roads

The Nevada Departments of Transportation and Public Safety are reminding Nevadans to share the road after Nevada pedestrian traffic deaths rose in 2017 amid a decline in overall statewide traffic deaths.

In 2017, Douglas County had a rise in all deaths on the road: Fatal crashes up from 5 to 9, fatalities up from 5 to 11, alcohol fatal crashes up from 1 to 2, and number of fatalities in those crashes up from 1 to 3.

Unique items uncovered by Washoe County Sheriffs, owners sought

As part of an ongoing investigation, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office ATAC detectives recently located some unique items they believe to be stolen, and are now attempting to locate potential victims.

Among the items recently recovered are two boxed bounce houses and two bounce house fans. Detectives also located a large, radio-controlled model helicopter, jewelry, and sporting equipment.

CA Board warns Nestle it lacks rights to California spring water

A significant amount of Nestlé’s water diversions in the San Bernardino National Forest are unauthorized, state water rights investigators say.

The Swiss-based company has been diverting an average of 192 acre feet of water per year from the forest, which is more than the 26 acre feet it is allowed under its current water rights, according to a report released Thursday, Dec. 21, by the State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Rights.

Record number of homeless Carson City kids shop during Holiday With a Hero

The 14th annual Holiday With a Hero campaign culminated Wednesday in Carson City at Walmart after months of fundraising. At least 240 homeless children from across the Carson City School District met with Santa Claus before being paired with first responder heroes for a Christmas shopping spree.

A South Lake Tahoe hair salon is gaining attention from around the country because of their specialized wedding hair services, and its all because of Rah Hair Salon's owner Angelia Zajic and her team of eight stylists.

Zajic, a South Lake Tahoe native and a graduate of Whittell High School, opened Rah in 2009 after working at New Wave and in the Aveda Salon at MontBleu. It was her experience with Aveda that led Angela to creating a spa-like atmosphere at the studio which is located at 2572 Lake Tahoe Blvd #4.

Foggy start to the day in Lake Tahoe; Forecast shows sunny and warming

The fog was socked in around Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning, but its starting to recede and retreat and should be all clear by noon.

It isn't often when the temperature of the lake is warmer than the air, but that is what happens when fog is created. The cold air mass condensates into clouds and sits low over the lake and South Lake Tahoe. The ski resorts were sitting above the fog and had a very sunny morning.

Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets project closer to summer 2018 construction

The updated Sierra Boulevard Complete Streets Project was presented to the community Thursday night, with changes incorporated after input from the public at their first meeting August 17, 2017.

Funded by grants, the .6 mile stretch of Sierra Boulevard starting at Highway 50 will have Class 1 and Class 2 bike lanes, parallel parking spots, reduced lane size, lighted sidewalks, underground utilities, landscaping, crosswalks and water quality improvements.

Champions Plaza “Spirit of Competition” unveiled

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The long awaited 11 foot tall bronze sculpture "Spirit of Competition" perched on top of a 4.5 ton boulder was unveiled during a ceremony at Champions Plaza Friday.

Sculptor Gareth Curtiss transported his creation from his studio in Fortine, Montana just two days ago in the back of his van, early Thursday morning the bronze sculpture was picked up with a crane and placed on top of the boulder, bolted in and wrapped up for the ceremony.

New York performer returns home to teach South Lake Tahoe youth

New York performer and choreographer Sebastiani Romagnolo grew up dancing with Marcia Sarosik at her South Lake Tahoe dance studio, and he returned to those roots this week to help teach the next generation of performers.

The 2007 South Tahoe High and 2011 New York University (NYU) graduate took time out his hectic east coast schedule to head west to visit family in South Lake Tahoe, and visits to town always include a stop by Sarosik's studio.

Many may remember his talent as he headlined many South Tahoe High musicals, and now he's entertaining audiences in New York.

Wind warning in place for Lake Tahoe Saturday; Rain possible by end of next week

The National Weather Service forecast shows below average temperatures will be on tap through Saturday as a trough moves over the West. Strong easterly winds are likely at the northern Sierra crest late tonight and Saturday morning as strong surface high pressure builds into the Great Basin. Warmer temperatures and dry conditions are expected early next week, with the potential for cooler, wetter, and windier weather late week.

Homelessness is a housing issue in South Lake Tahoe and beyond

Homelessness isn’t just a South Lake Tahoe issue. It isn’t just an El Dorado county issue. It isn't just a California problem, though the state ranks 49th in housing units per capita.

And it isn't a problem that is going away any time soon and will take a change in the way the problem is currently being addressed to be solved. For every 100 people who are added to the population of California there are only 32 housing units built to house them.

60th free concert this week at Live at Lakeview

Lake Tahoe Secret Witness offers $3,000 for arrest of Manpreet Singh's murderer

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Secret Witness Program if offering a $3,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of local gas station attendant Manpreet Singh on August 3, 2013.

“Friends and family never forget and neither should we," said El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson as he asked for the public's help in solving the case.

Singh was the lone employee on the night shift at U.S. Gas on Lake Tahoe Boulevard when a gunman entered the store, shot and killed him.

Three-car crash near Sierra sends two to hospital

The California Highway Patrol released their report today of the July 29 three-car collision on US50 east of Sierra at Tahoe Road that sent one to Renown on Care Flight and another to Barton, both with multiple injuries.

Shakespeare at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor entertains with two plays

South Lake Tahoe gas station attendant's murder focus of Cold Case Task Force

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Cold Case Task Force of the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office is seeking the public's assistance in solving the unsolved murder of South Lake Tahoe resident Manpreet Singh. Singh was the lone attendant on the night shift at U.S. Gas on August 6, 2013 when a gunman entered the store, shot and killed Singh.

A customer walked into the store that evening at 10:50 p.m. and called 911 to tell them Singh had been shot. Video from that night shows the gunman walk from Palmira Avenue and enter the store at 10:40 p.m.

Victims identified in fatal Kingsbury Grade crash

Carson City residents have been identified as the victim's in Tuesday night's fatal collision on Kingsbury Grade.

On July 4 at 9:26 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene of a head-on collision on SR207/Kingsbury about two miles up from Foothill Road. Upon arrival they found a crash involving a 2013 Ford F150 and 2012 Scion XB.

The NHP preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Scion was driving eastbound and allowed his vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines into the path of the Ford, causing a head-on collision.

Movie The Appeal of Suicide to be shown in Lake Tahoe

By the time you watch the movie clip in this story, one individual will have ended their life by suicide because they think they have no other choice. According to the World Health Organization, a massive 800,000 people take their lives every year—one death every 40 seconds. That’s over 2,000 a day.

A free showing of the movie "EXIT: The Appeal of Suicide" will be shown on the South Shore on Saturday, July 15 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m at Tahoe Community Church in Stateline. There will be a question and answer period Q & A after the movie.
