Don't miss the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Valhalla Boathouse

If you haven't been out to enjoy music and performances at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater yet, this month is the time to do so with a full lineup for all ages.

After watching the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee on opening weekend, we highly recommend this fun musical though not appropriate for those under 13). It is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy and even though far from Broadway, the local Lake Tahoe cast made it very entertaining.

Six awkward tweens vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime, spelling their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, the quirky, yet charming students candidly disclose hilarious and touching stories from their home lives while learning that winning isn't everything.

The audience participates as well (and if you want candy or cookies, sit in the front for a scene where they are tossed out). You can even be chosen as a guest speller and be in the play.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee can still be seen July 13-15 and 20-23 at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $15-$30. Purchase tickets online or at the door: www.valhallatahoe.com

They make stuff up, you laugh. It's simple! The Tahoe iMPRoV Players have been turning audience suggestions into hilarious scenes made up on the spot for over 20 years. Come see one of the longest performing acts in Lake Tahoe ... one of the first to perform at the beautiful Valhalla Boathouse Theater.

Artist-in-Residence Kist Night, July 14-23, 2017, 11:00 am - 4:30 pm daily - Viking Gallery - FREE
A reception for the artist will be held July 18, 4:30 - 6:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Kit's impressionist still lifes and plein aire work is influenced by Jazz. Miles, Coltrane, Dizzy, Evans, Brubeck and, as Count Basie used to refer to him, "Oscar Pete." She loves listening to the old guys tell their stories and talk about their struggles. Color inspires Kit. She gets endorphins from it, creating radiant light with color. And she loves to push the envelope of space by shoving flattened abstracted space up against "realistic," deep space. It's like riding the edge on a sailboard or skiing downhill fast. The thrill is enjoying the ride and not knowing if you're going to crash.

The parking lot at Valhalla will be open during Viking Gallery hours (11:00 am - 4:30 pm) July 14 and July 17-21. One weekends, please park in lot on Highway 89 and enjoy a short, beautiful stroll to the gallery.

Evening Music on the Lawn Returns July 19 with The Richard March Band
July 19, 5:30 pm on the Grand Lawn - $10 - $20 DONATION

Don't miss this one! Our first evening concert on the lawn turned out 200 enthusiastic folks who picnicked, danced and sipped beer and wine from our outdoor bar. It was so much fun!

IMPORTANT: Though donations are not required, we ask that patrons consider donating so that we can continue to offer these exciting and popular outdoor events.

Richard March is a Sacramento Area Music Award (SAMMIE) winner for Outstanding Male Vocalist, received a Best of Sacramento award from Sacramento Magazine for best local Americana artist, and was awarded Best Locally Produced Album in the Sacramento News and Review's 2007 "Best of" issue. As a songwriter/storyteller, March is a modern day throwback to the melodic, progressive country music stars of several decades ago when folks like Mickey Newbury, Kris Kristofferson and Glen Campbell were regularly heard on radio. March's live performance skills have garnered him opening positions for Johnny Cash's legendary backing band the Tennessee Three, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Steve Forbert, John Hammond, Straycat Lee Rocker and the Hacienda Brothers.
