2018 was an extraordinary year for Lake Tahoe, and one of the region’s most successful years in decades. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) assisted by dozens of partners approved landmark programs and projects, including a new Shoreline Plan, a comprehensive update of TRPA’s development rights system, and the U.S. 50 South Shore Community Revitalization Project.

Soroptimists honor South Tahoe High and Whittell High girls

Ten senior girls at South Tahoe High School and Whittell High Schools were honored by the Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe club on Wednesday for their service to the community and their leadership, athletic and academic achievements.
For over 30 years the club has honored local students via their "Women of Distinction" award program.

Office and business closures in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - All El Dorado County facilities in South Lake Tahoe are closed for Thursday, January 17 due to inclement weather. This includes the South Lake Tahoe Library.
Due to a blizzard warning and high winds, both Snowmobile Tours and MS Dixie II Sightseeing Cruise has been cancelled for today.
Tahoe Toys & Treasures is closed.
El Dorado County office of Education is closed, which is a county office, but most know it as Head Start and Early Head Start.
Volunteers for Bread & Broth 4 Kids: Food bags will be packed on Friday morning at 8:45 instead of Thursday.
Schools on the South Shore open; Douglas County on 90 minute delay
Submitted by paula on Wed, 01/16/2019 - 7:49amAll schools in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (South Lake Tahoe) will be open on Wednesday, January 16 but there are some program cancellations - All after[school AAA programs are cancelled, STHS cross country practice going to Kirkwood cancelled as are the high school alpine practices at Sierra-at-Tahoe.
Up at the North Shore, Truckee Tahoe School District schools are closed. All school activities are cancelled unless notified otherwise.

Lake Tahoe Humane Society disbands, turns operations over to Truckee Tahoe group

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Almost two years after their executive director embezzled almost $60,000 from the Lake Tahoe Humane Society (LTHS), the nonprofit tasked with helping local pets, is folding after 51 years of serving the South Lake Tahoe community.
A new board of directors had taken several steps, including the sale of their Emerald Bay Road building and laying off of employees, to get LTHS back on their feet but could never get the nonprofit's community standing back.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Bread & Broth, the local nonprofit tasked with feeding those in need on the South Shore, will be the beneficiary of the annual Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Riva Grill in South Lake Tahoe.
Hosted by the Tahoe Chamber, the mixer will raise funds and gather food donations for the group's Bread & Broth 4 Kids program which gives away up to 170 bags of food each weekend to local school children in grades K-8.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - SR-89 around Emerald Bay remains closed this afternoon and SR-88 at Kirkwood is expected to reopen shortly after a storm passed through Lake Tahoe, dumping snow and rain on the region.
Due to I-80 closing for most of Sunday because of white-out conditions and unsafe roads, many of those travelers headed to the South Shore to try and use US-50 to go over Echo Summit. That combined with the exodus of tourists in town to ski, many surface streets throughout Meyers and South Lake Tahoe remained jammed with standstill traffic for hours.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Revolt Tattoos, established by TV’s “Ink Master” alums, have opened a new parlor on the South Shore at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The new spot was unveiled during a grand opening party on January 2 where guests were eligible for raffle prizes including a free four-hour tattoo.

Nevada Gaming Control Board: South Shore casino revenue up over 10%

Gaming revenue for the State of Nevada during the month of November 2018 showed an increase over the previous year, posting a gain of 6.40 percent with a "win" of $967,168,553 for casinos in the state (up $5.8M) according to figures released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board today.
The "gaming win" represents the computed income of casinos before business expenses and taxes.
On the South Shore, the $17,136,801 in gaming revenue earned by the casinos was up by 10.49 percent from 2017. The Carson City and Carson Valley had a "win" of $8,974,211 in September, up 3.48 percent.

Today’s Weather: Expect Mostly Cloudy Skies with a chance of Showers. Snow level, 6500-7000 feet. Highs: 40F-45F (30F-35F on the Slopes). Southwest Winds 10-15 mph. Gust up to 85 mph, decreasing to 55 mph in the afternoon.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority would like to thank the community for the donations of toys, food and $1,675 in cash, (including $800 from Reno-Tahoe Territory and $500 from South Lake Tahoe Lodging Association) that was dropped of for Christmas Cheer All Year at the LTVA’s Nevada Visitors Center.
We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our South Shore community.

Today’s Weather: Expect Mostly Cloudy Skies in the morning, then becoming Partly Cloudy. Scattered Snow Showers in the morning. Snow accumulation up to 3” above 7000 feet. Highs: 35F-40F (25F-30F on the Slopes). Southwest winds 10-15 mph. Ridge Gusts up to 70 mph decreasing to 50 mph in the afternoon.
