Man killed in North Lake Tahoe officer-involved shooting identified
Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/06/2017 - 8:59pmThe victim in an officer-involved shooting in North Lake Tahoe has been identified as 27-year-old Jose Gonzales Lera from Lakewood, Colorado.
Lera took a female hostage at gunpoint and was eventually shot and killed by Placer County Sheriff's deputies early Friday morning.
China's Olympic freestyle mogul run renamed "Squaw Valley"

The ”stoke delegation” from Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows visited the resort’s sister mountain in China, Genting Secret Garden. China will be hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Officer involved shooting closes SR89 near Squaw Valley/Alpine
Submitted by paula on Fri, 02/03/2017 - 7:28amThe Placer County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 3:00 a.m. Friday near North Lake Tahoe.
At around 1:40 a.m., deputies and California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers attempted to pull over a suspected DUI driver, who was driving dangerously and erratically on Highway 28. The pursuit was terminated a few minutes later.
At 2:45 a.m., a deputy saw the car on Highway 28, near Dollar Hill, again driving erratically, and attempted to pull him over. The male driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began.

Squaw Valley closes after fatal accident of ski patroller
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/24/2017 - 12:42pm2:00 p.m. update - Joe Zuiches, a 42 year-old resident of Olympic Valley and a member of the Squaw Valley professional ski patrol since 2012, was killed in a fatal incident at 8:35 a.m. Tuesday morning, prior to regularly scheduled operations, during avalanche control activities at the top of Gold Coast Ridge at Squaw Valley. The cause is believed to be the detonation of an explosive charge. An investigation is ongoing in cooperation with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office and North Tahoe Fire Department.
Squaw Valley expands World Cup weekend to include Toyota ProAm

Tahoe City woman dies when tree falls on car on SR-89
Submitted by paula on Thu, 01/12/2017 - 10:40pmA 43-year-old woman from Tahoe City, Calif., was killed Thursday after a tree fell onto her car as she was driving north of Squaw Valley on SR-89.
According to the California Highway Patrol in Truckee, several cars were on the roadway at about 6:30 p.m. when a tree fell onto the road, hitting two cars, a Subaru and Cadillac Escalade.
The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another tree fell on a third car as the driver stopped to check on the occupant of the Subaru. Occupants of the Cadillac and Tesla were uninjured.

Widespread South Shore power outage from Stateline to Meyers; Also on SR 89 and Tahoe City
Submitted by paula on Tue, 01/10/2017 - 10:23pm2:00 p.m. update - Power has been restored to a majority of customers in the Northstar, Squaw, Olympic Valley, Alpine Meadows, Glenshire, Martis Camp and Truckee areas. Liberty Utilities anticipates customers in Kings Beach, Tahoe City and Portola/Loyalton will also be restored today, Wednesday.
There are still challenges to restoring power from Emerald Bay to south of Homewood.
No word on how many South Lake Tahoe customers are still without power, or how long to get it back on.

Most Liberty Utilities customers on West Shore should have power restored Monday
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/09/2017 - 10:03am6:00 p.m. update Monday - Power is back on to all but 50 customers along the West shore. Liberty Utilities said their crews were able to rebuild a major transmission line today that serves the West Shore. The 50 customers still without power are along SR-89 between Squaw Valley and Truckee as well as in a couple of scattered areas. With the snow coming down hard now, Liberty will continue to monitor this line as well as work on restoring power to those customers without service.
Slow moving traffic leaving South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/08/2017 - 12:34pmTraffic heading west from South Lake Tahoe is once again creating a long line of vehicles from the area near Ernie's and Tahoe Cottage Inn on Highway 50 over to Echo Summit.
With the road closure on Lake Tahoe Blvd., traffic heading to South Upper Truckee Road is being diverted onto Sawmill Pond Road, adding to a jam at the intersection with Highway 50.
There is also traffic heading west on Pioneer Trail.
Caltrans crews were on Highway 50 over Echo Summit all night, keeping an eye on areas known for mud slides.
Lake Tahoe ski resorts closed Sunday due to rain and storm
Submitted by paula on Sun, 01/08/2017 - 9:10amWith Sunday's warm storm expected to drop up to a foot of rain on Lake Tahoe, area ski resorts are closed. High winds are also forecast for upper elevations.
"Guest and employee safety is our primary concern," said a message on Sierra-at-Tahoe's twitter page. "Thanks in advance for your understanding."
Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood, Squaw Valley / Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Sugar Bowl, Mt. Rose and Tahoe Donner have also joined Sierra and other resorts in closing mountain operations for the day.

'Ability Bash’ fundraiser honors veterans and participants with disabilities

The annual 'Ability Bash" fundraiser at Squaw Valley on January 28 will wrap up a week-long Military Sports Camp for disabled veterans. The event will honor the veterans as well as the participants with disabilities who work with Achieve Tahoe throughout the year.
Achieve Tahoe is a provider of winter and summer adaptive sports instruction at all ability levels for adults and children with disabilities. The Ability Bash will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the resort's conference center.
