TOCCATA–Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is concluding their 13th season with a holiday production of Handel's Messiah, and there are several chances around Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada people can catch this classic.
Along with the seasonal carols the group will be performing the audience is encouraged to join in singing.
Vocal Soloists for these perfromances will include: Sopranos Joy Strotz, Maria Arrigotti, Anne Davidson and Becky Earl; Mezzo Soprano Jenna Sims; Tenors Brad Perry and Robert Bousquet; and Baritones Stuart Duke, Emzy Burroughs and Chris Nelson.

We survived the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend and resorts that remain open this week and for the season continue to make snow and spin lifts. Kirkwood has scheduled Chair #6 – Cornice Express to offer top to bottom skiing & riding. Mammoth Mtn. & Mt Rose also open top to bottom. More snow predicted to come through with a Winter Storm Watch starting Wednesday.

Kirkwood has three lifts and 15 trails open; Mammoth is open top to bottom with 12 lifts and 37 trails open; Squaw has Gold Coast open on the upper mountain; Mt. Rose is open top to bottom. December 15, 2018 - 2:00pm The spirit of Christmas and Hanukkah come to life as the 18-piece Reno Jazz Orchestra (RJO) presents “A World of Joy” featuring holiday music from the U.S. to Brazil, Puerto Rico, Israel, Russia, Austria and back. Joining the RJO is Pat Ester’s Gospel Choir starring vocalists Pat Esters, Lori Johnson, David Wells, and Caitlin Collins. The Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra will open the show at the Reno performances.
Lake Tahoe athletes on U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/21/2018 - 12:16pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The United States Ski and Snowboard teams have been announced for this season and several local faces once again, including South Lake Tahoe Olympians Maddie Bowman and Jamie Anderson, are on that list.
Maddie Bowman, a South Tahoe High grad, has won an Olympic gold medal and seven X Games medals. She burst onto the ski halfpipe scene in 2012, and into the history books two years later by winning the first Olympic gold medal in women’s halfpipe skiing. She has now been on the Pro Halfpipe-Freeskiing team for seven years.
Motorists can expect delays on SR 89 between Truckee and Squaw Valley
Submitted by paula on Tue, 10/16/2018 - 10:05amCaltrans is alerting motorists to anticipate delays on a section of State Route 89 for the next several weeks as culverts along the highway are removed and replaced.
Work started Monday on Highway 89 between Truckee and Squaw Valley to replace the drainage pipes. Granite Construction is the contractor and will work weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., weather permitting, under one-way reversing traffic control with flaggers. Motorists should anticipate delays of up to 15 minutes.
The work involves removing and replacing six culverts and making improvements to three others.

Ron Cohen named CEO/President of Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows

The annual Art, Wine and Music Festival will return to The Village at Squaw Valley on July 14 and 15, celebrating its 17th anniversary. In celebration of the event, visitors can taste some of California’s finest wines at wine tastings while enjoying performances from national and international artists on three different stages. The event, which also features local and regional artisans, takes place on Saturday, July 14 and Sunday, July 15, 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Dave McClure 1950~2018

He was the first born child of Charles and Florence Engstrom McClure in Martinez, Calif., on October 7, 1050. Soon after, they moved to San Francisco, they lived in the student housing quonset huts while Charles got his teaching degree. Four years later they moved to San Anselmo, in Marin County, where the family lived in an Asian pagoda style home until 2016.

22 disabled veterans heading to Lake Tahoe for special week at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows
Submitted by paula on Sun, 03/11/2018 - 12:06pmTwenty-two injured veterans will arrive at the Reno-Tahoe airport Sunday evening and head to Squaw Valley / Alpine Meadows for 3rd annual Military to the Mountains program through March 17, 2018.
Eight of the veterans are residents of the Reno/Sparks area and will join the arrival celebration at 7:45 p.m. at the airport near the ski statue.
The week long adaptive ski week is sponsored by High Fives Foundation, Adaptive Training Foundation, City of Reno, Achieve Tahoe and Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.
