SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the coronavirus COVID-19 has prompted more events and activities to be postponed or canceled in the South Lake Tahoe area. At this time there are no confirmed cases in El Dorado, Douglas, or Carson City counties.

All upcoming kindergarten tours have been canceled.

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - At the beginning of the 30th annual American Century Championship at Edgewood Tahoe, the Tahoe Douglas Rotary club honored the CEO of America Century Investments, Jonathan Thomas. On the first tee in between the threesomes of Steph Curry, Justin Timberlake, Tony Romo and AJ Hark, Jordy Nelson, Aaron Rodgers, the local Rotary club presented Thomas with a Paul Harris Fellow.

The award was created by Rotary International for recognition of significant acts of service and generosity.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Ready for some traditional Irish food in honor of St. Patrick's Day? On Sunday, March 17 the St. Theresa Parish will be holding their annual Saint Patrick's Dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The dinner is prepared by the Knights of Columbus will include corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, carrots, soda bread and desserts. Irish coffee, beer, wine and sodas will be offered.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids 6 - 12. Tickets are available after all the Masses and at the door.

LAKE TAHOE - It was March Madness on the South Shore today as about 200 people braved the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe, all in the spirit of raising money for Special Olympics.

The annual Polar Plunge was at Zephyr Cove Resort and the water was about 48 degrees when the crowds jumped in.

"Today's turnout was great!" said Harry Mong, Senior Director of Programs and Partnership for Special Olympics Northern Nevada. "$186,000 was raised and it goes to support our sports programs. There are 300 competitions in 11 different sports, and it is all free for the competitors."

Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club’s 50th annual St. Patrick's Day event will be held on Saturday, March 17 from 6:00 p.m. to 10;00 p.m. at Harrah’s Convention
Center in Stateline, Nevada.

This year there will be some new twists as they hit this milestone event which started as a wine and cheese tasting above DART Liquor.

The club promises one-of-kind auction items, SURPRISE special performers, not one but TWO chances for a trip to Hawaii through our Hawaiian Raffle and their first ever Costume and Beard Contests, and much more.

This year's Community Hero Awards will go to teachers.

A South Lake Tahoe couple has taken over the ownership at Tahoe Tot Spot, a place where the younger set can enjoy activities, interactions with other kids, crafts and more.

Julie Pardysz was relocating to Colorado and had the business up for sale. The Tot Spot was on the verge of having to close as no buyers were coming forward. At the last minute, Jen and Chris Bloch made an offer to keep the doors open.

The California and Nevada Highway Patrol, South Lake Tahoe Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office are reminding everyone who celebrates St. Patrick’s Day that no one is immune from the consequences of drunk driving.

Drunk driving is a top problem for both states, and local law enforcement will be joining forces to boost enforcement efforts and initiating a impaired driving mobilization period from March 17 to March 31, 2016.

With St. Patrick's Day being one of the biggest holidays centered around partying, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department is having a DUI Checkpoint as well as extra patrols on the roads to help lower deaths and injuries.

The checkpoint will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. The location has not been disclosed.

St. Patrick's Day not only bring to mind shamrocks, leprechauns, pots of gold and good luck. March 17 also brings to mind green beer, Irish whiskey and heavy drinking.
