June 22, 2019 - 12:00pm The UCCE Master Gardeners of Lake Tahoe are having their 6th annual Plant Sale on Saturday, June 22, 2019 from 12 noon to 2 PM. (Or until all plants are sold, so arrive early!) This year’s sale will be held in the Cowork Tahoe parking lot. (Formerly Tahoe Mountain Lab) at 3079 Harrison Avenue, SLT. There will be a wide variety of Tahoe and Sierra natives as well as many high elevation adaptive plants. Vegetable plants will be very limited this year.

This is such a tiny change and yet most of us ignore making these types of minor changes in our lives, or the life of our community, as we think that the effect won’t be significant enough. That is because we live in an instant gratification society and want results now, when in fact a number of small changes done day in day out will make a massive difference to our lives and the communities of Lake Tahoe.

El Dorado County is holding a day of public meetings to gather input for broadband planning and improvement on Thursday, January 18 at the Tahoe Mountain Lab in South Lake Tahoe.
The County is working with consulting firm NEO Connect to conduct a Broadband Feasibility Study to evaluate current broadband resources and identify options for improving connectivity and expanding broadband across the County.
Tax increase to fix South Lake Tahoe roads to be determined Tuesday

Voters will decide if a one-half cent sales tax will be added in the town to provide approximately $2.5 million that will fix potholes and pave, repair, maintain local roads.

The one thing everyone could agree on is the importance of having live theatre in South Lake Tahoe, but how that theatre and the program supporting it will look in the future is uncertain. Will it be a community based theatre, or will it continue to be a college run program?

Meeting held to help local employers with new federal overtime rule

A new federal law goes into effect on December 1 that entitles salaried employees to get overtime pay if they make less than $47,476 per year. To help people understand this change they are holding a lunchtime workshop on Wednesday, November 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab.
According to the White House, an estimated 4.2 million white collar workers will become entitled to overtime pay when they work extra hours as a result of the new rule, and wages for workers will increase by $12 billion over the next 10 years.

That wish will be a reality this winter as Tahoe Mountain Lab and Vail Resorts have developed a first of its kind coworking space at Heavenly Mountain's Lakeview Lodge.
Starting in December, the on-mountain solution will open for people that need to hammer out a few hours of work but would still like to enjoy a day on the slopes.

For two weeks every year, Lake Tahoe area commuters, students and recreational riders get on their bikes instead of in the cars to get to where they need to go. This year's event started on June 1 and goes until June 14 so there are just a few days to make your bike rides count.
In addition to all the other reasons to participate (including that it is fun & free), the data collected goes to help show the need for bicycle paths and other infrastructure when we apply for grants and other funding.

On October 15, 2015, BBBS will be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to announce the expansion of their programs into South Lake Tahoe.
The ceremony will take place from 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Tahoe Mountain Lab located at 1048 Ski Run Blvd. The owners of Tahoe Mountain Lab, David and Jamie Orr, have generously donated the space to BBBS for meeting purposes. David was previously a “Little” and considers this an opportunity to “give back” to his community.

New Leadership Lake Tahoe class announced

Leadership Lake Tahoe is a 10-month program that covers key aspects of the South Shore community so participants have a better understanding of their home and may further develop their leadership skills.
