South Lake Tahoe neighborhood gets together for pay-it-forward breakfast

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A pay-it-forward holiday breakfast enjoyed by a South Lake Tahoe neighborhood left $700 in tips for the waitress and cooks, and they encourage others to spread more cheer.

A New Hampshire woman saw an idea posted on Facebook about how a group of friends when to a local restaurant, each committing to spend $50 each/$100 per couple. They chose an inexpensive restaurant so the tips for their server were much larger than those earned during a normal shift.

Moose Lodge deliveries 50 boxes of food to Family Resource Center

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 13th annual Christmas Food Drive at the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 resulted in 50 very full boxes of food for the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center (FRC).

Food insecure families were selected by FRC to receive the boxes of canned and dry foods along with a ham, enough for a holiday feast.

Cub Scout Pack 592 helped collect food and decorated the boxes for delivery. The lodge members purchased the hams.

On Wednesday, members of the Moose Lodge delivered the food that will be handed out by the FRC.

While supplies last, the South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is selling See's Candy at the American Legion Post 795 from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily through December 23.

The Cancer League provides transportation for cancer patients from the South Shore to their chemotherapy appointments as well as providing cash grants for struggling patients.

Daughters of the American Revolution host Wreaths Across America ceremony

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 4th annual Wreaths Across America ceremony was held at Happy Homestead Cemetery in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, December 17.

South Lake Tahoe's Wreaths Across America event was sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The event honors current military personnel, fallen U.S. veterans, and first responders across the country. In South Lake Tahoe, wreaths were placed at the cemetery's Memorial Wall.

Kudos: Bijou PTA thanks all for a great return of the school's Holiday Faire

Saturday's Bijou Holiday Faire was a great success! The PTA was beyond excited to bring this once-annual event back after a few years missed from COVID. And prior to that, the Faire always seemed to fall on a day with a major snowstorm.

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful weather-wise, kids coming in and out all afternoon enjoying 10 different crafts, pictures with Santa and the Grinch, and a free Santa Shop for them to pick out gifts for their families!

Two Trails of Lights in South Lake Tahoe to enjoy - one by foot, one by vehicle

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Take a journey on the Trail of Lights in South Lake Tahoe through the holiday season. From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., wander along the trail starting at the recreation center.

The decorations are from last week's Festival of Lights and they will remain throughout the month for all to enjoy.

It is an easy walk, about 100 yards, and parking is at the South Lake Tahoe Recreation Center, 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. Stop by your favorite spot for hot cocoa on the way to bring it along as you enjoy the holiday spirit.

But save some as you follow the other Trail of Lights.

Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe presents check to Live Violence Free

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe presented a check for $1500.45 to Live Violence Free (LVF). During its monthly board meeting, they voted to give LVF %500 to help buy Christmas presents for the families they serve.

Then they found out it was the nonprofit's 45th anniversary and wanted to help them celebrate.

A member challenged the membership to match the $500, and that request was met and doubled.

Finalists named for 15th annual Blue Ribbon Awards

The Tahoe Chamber has announced the finalists for the 15th annual Blue Ribbon Awards that celebrate exemplary businesses and people who positively impacted the community in 2022. The finalists will be honored at a special awards ceremony on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Katz Amsterdam awards almost $2.5M to support communities where Vail has resorts

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust and Foundation has awarded $2.46 million in mental and behavioral health grants to community-based organizations in nine mountain communities across North America, including Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe, and Truckee. This is the fifth year grants were awarded, with aggregate funding of over $13.5M, to help increase overall access to mental health care, reduce behavioral health stigma and improve community-developed services for communities of color and indigenous populations. This year’s grants will benefit over 40 organizations.

Janeen and her fellow HEROs teammates were on hand to support Bread & Broth's (B&B’s) evening Monday Meal on December 5 as the casinos’ HEROs organization sponsored their second Adopt A Day of Nourishment of 2022.

Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger raises $10,000 South Lake Tahoe charities

The annual Lucky Beaver toy and food drive raised over $10,000 for local charities Christmas Cheer and Phoenix Food Pantry. The event was founded by Lucky Beaver co-owner Mike Leeper after he was notified of a toy & food shortage in the Lake Tahoe Basin for the holiday. Mike and his staff took it upon themselves to not only purchase toys but also supported the annual Heavenly Village Turkey Drive. The public, patrons, players, and staff all support the Lucky Beaver Toy Drive and the turnout for 2022 was incredible.

Douglas County opens warming shelter at Kahle Community Center

STATELINE, Nev.- Douglas County has opened a warming shelter at the Douglas County Kahle Community Center as part of a collaborative effort to assist those without power from the NV Energy Outage.

The center will be open all night in response to the cold temperatures affecting the Tahoe area.

Lucky Beaver takes over Lakeside Inn tradition of feeding Douglas County deputies and court staff

STATELINE, Nev. - The Douglas County courthouse at Lake Tahoe was filled with the delicious smells of a holiday feast on Friday. For years Lakeside Inn and Casino brought over a meal for the staff in the building including deputies, clerks, and court staff including the judge. When they closed there was nobody to fill the slack until Lucky Beaver Bar & Grill staff prepared a large meal for them.

On behalf of the coaches, swimmers, and parents of the Tahoe Swim Team, we would like to sincerely thank the South Lake Tahoe community for supporting our successful Go Fund Me Campaign. The Tahoe Swim Team has recently regrouped as a local nonprofit and unexpectedly had to start over from scratch. Due to the overwhelming generosity of the community, the team has a strong foundation and more swimmers than ever participating in the program.

Tahoe Magic extends gratitude to those who say "yes" to fill needs of the community

As 2022 comes to a close, Tahoe Magic would like to sincerely thank our community for the partnership we have had with you for more than 28 years. Tahoe Magic became a certified 501c3 nonprofit organization in 1994. For many years, Tahoe Magic orchestrated a very large Christmas present-giving event for up to 600 children annually in our South Shore communities.

Tahoe Paradise Park seeks proposals for 2023 Music in the Park summer series in South Lake Tahoe

Tahoe Paradise Park, otherwise known as Tahoe Paradise Recreations & Park District (TPRPD) in Meyers is seeking an event vendor to assist with their long-running Friday night music summer series program in 2023 and has published a Request For Proposals (RFP) for interested parties.

TPRPD prefers Music-in-the-Park (MITP) events to have a similar 'look & feel' to past MITP events. For this RFP the Park prefers to work with businesses and contractors located within a one-hour drive of the park site, to further support the economy of our region.

Soroptimist of Tahoe Sierra presents check to Mt. Tallac High School

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Sandy Williams was a Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) member and spent countless hours volunteering in the South Lake Tahoe community, much of that time spent helping at Mt. Tallac High School.

Upon her passing in 2019, Sandy's husband Keith donated all of his art to the SITS club to be used to raise funds for use at Mt. Tallac, the center of Sandy's heart and passion.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people warm this winter

As our Tahoe winter settles in with snow and frigid temperatures, most residents retreat to the inside for activities, comforts, and warm beds in a place we call home. Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has this option as well. This winter season marks the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

Festival of Winter Lights moved to one night only due to incoming storm

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Due to forecasted inclement weather, the Festival of Winter Lights will be held for one night only on Friday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Unfortunately, the Saturday portion has been canceled.

Organizers are disappointed with this change but are still very excited to invite the public out to enjoy the event for one evening. This change will have no impact on the festivities, vendor line-up, or entertainment schedule for Friday night.

Large turnout for South Lake Tahoe Christmas Tree lighting ceremony

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 7th annual Heavenly Village Tree Lighting was a huge success with a large crowd attending - organizers estimate thousands witnessed the lighting of the 65-foot tall fir tree.

Organizer and MC for the evening, Dreu Murin, welcomed the crowd to the evening's festivities which included incoming El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf, Miss El Dorado County Carson Leikauf, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and of course, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus.

Tahoe Fund matching donations to Ski Run Community Park up to $100,000

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Ski Run Community Park in South Lake Tahoe sits at the base of Heavenly and is in the middle of the Ski Run neighborhood where hundreds of children live.

The ground was broken on the park in May, and plans have been firmed up since then.

Goal of 1,000 pairs of socks during Share, Care, and Give a Pair in Incline Village and Reno

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – RE/MAX Gold of Reno and Incline Village are hosting the annual sock drive, Share, Care, and Give a Pair, to help Northern Nevada HOPES.

The realtors will be collecting new, unused socks for distribution in the local community this winter for HOPES, who provide affordable, high-quality, medical, behavioral health, and support services for all. Since 1997, Northern Nevada HOPES has been on the front lines of community health, caring for those with the fewest resources and options, many of whom are living in crisis every day.

“Hard Rock fully supports the work Bread & Broth does,” shared Kelly Crossgrove, Hard Rock’s director of human resources. This was the second AAD sponsorship that Hard Rock has participated in this year in addition to donating the rolls and utensils for B&B’s Thanksgiving dinner on November 21.

Santa arrives at Tahoe Cedars in Tahoma on Saturday night

TAHOMA, Calif. - The community is invited to join in the holiday fun on Saturday, December 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Marie Sluchak Park in Tahoma for the Holiday Gala.

Santa will arrive in a sled disguised as a fire truck, complete with sirens and lights! Santa's helper, Ed Miller, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

The park is located at 225 Pine Street, Tahoma.

The event is hosted by the Tahoe Cedars Property Owners Association. They will be holding a tree raffle - tickets are $1.

Holiday Tree Lane to raise funds for local nonprofits in South Lake Tahoe area

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Give back to a local nonprofit and get a chance to win a pre-decorated tree with Holiday Tree Lane. This year’s “parade of trees” includes twelve trees, each uniquely decorated by a local business and dedicated to raising funds for a cause.

The community is invited to view the trees and enter the raffle now through December 16 by going to bit.ly/HolidayTreeLane. Tickets start at $5 per entry, $20 for five entries, and $100 for 25 entries. 100 percent of the proceeds go to nonprofit organizations. 26th annual Parade of Lights in Douglas County on Saturday

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - Join your family and friends, grab your blankets and chairs to watch the floats, marching bands, color guard, and of course, their special Guest from the North Pole, as they make their way along Highway 395 from Eddy Street to Minden Park. The Grand Marshal this year is Kurt Hildebrand.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public about the road closures which will occur prior to the Parade of Lights start time on Saturday, December 3, 2022.

Roads will close at approximately 4:30 p.m. and the parade begins at 5:00 p.m.

Shops at Heavenly Village Turkey Drive breaks records

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Shops at Heavenly Village Turkey Drive for 2022 has already passed previous years in the collection of close to 600 turkeys to date, according to organizers.

This is the third year the shops have collected turkeys for Phoenix Pantry and Christmas Cheer.

With the support of the Heavenly Village and its partners, over 300 turkeys were delivered in 2020, and over 500 in 2021.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue Christmas Engine schedule

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has announced the schedule for its decorated Christmas Engine. They will be starting the anticipated seasonal visit through local streets beginning Saturday, December 10. The decorated engine will be leaving the station each night at 5 p.m. barring any weather issues or emergencies.

People can also see the engine on Dec 9 and 10 at the Festival of Winter Lights at the Recreation Center/Museum Complex.

Saturday - 12/10
Al Tahoe Blvd and Al Tahoe neighborhood

Sunday - 12/11
Sierra Blvd neighborhoods

Monday - 12/12
