Over 200 enjoy Community Thanksgiving Dinner with Bread & Broth
Submitted by paula on Tue, 11/22/2022 - 6:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over 200 dinners were served at the annual Bread & Broth Community Thanksgiving dinner.
A traditional meal was served, seconds and “to go” dinners were also provided, and food giveaway bags were handed out as well.
Thanks to the South Lake Tahoe community, Bread & Broth received over $6,000 in cash donations for the dinners and food bags, and Smart & Final provided pies, Hard Rock Hotel Casino provided rolls and utensils, and Safeway gave the non-profit gift certificate to help with the purchase food.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Gym Love will be hosting its first Community Day on Wednesday, November 30 at South of North from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. They will be making tie blankets for the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) and hanging out together as a community.
Bring your family and friends and enjoy some music, desserts, and South of North’s delicious food and drinks. It will be $5 a person which will be going towards the TCH housing and homeless programs. This includes all the supplies and desserts!

Santa will be dropped off by CalStar, as long as they aren't on an emergency flight. There will be hot cocoa, popcorn, a photo opportunity with Santa, and music. Lake Valley Fire will be there in their decorated and lit truck!

Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performs Handel's Messiah this holiday season

The Reno-Tahoe-Truckee and South Tahoe communities continue enjoying the wonderful holiday tradition of Toccata’s Messiah production.
Messiah was first performed in Dublin, Ireland on March 23, 1742, and was conducted by its composer, George Frederic Handel. It continues to be a masterpiece that has left audiences in awe for 277 years.
Community Christmas Tree arrives at Heavenly Village

For seven years, Kenny Curtzwiler of K & K Services has gone in search of the "perfect tree" for the community, normally scouting it out a year or two before it's needed. Many times the tree comes from a forest thinning project, and Kenny asks if it could remain until needed.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless receives $100K donation from Kyle and Jessica Aster

The Asters made a donation of $100,000 that will help with their operational shortfall as winter begins. These funds are helping at a
critical time as temperatures plummet, more snow is on the way, and they are under renovations on rooms for new tenants. Currently, forty rooms are housing vulnerable members of our community, and twenty more units will be available in 2023.

With Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal falling on Halloween this year, wearing costumes was a fun treat for the team members from Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) who came to host and volunteer at the October 31 evening dinner. Dressed as a dinosaur, skeleton, cowgirl, and mouse respectively, Dan Segan, Bridget Cornell, Victoria Ortiz, and Rebecca Cremeen brought both a hot meal and a smile to the faces of the evening’s dinner guests.

Heavenly Village held a free Halloween party with multiple stops for candy from businesses in the Village as well as community members like the carpenters who had a booth for the celebrants to come by for candy.
Make plans to stop by the event in 2023.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District Performing Arts Department has rescheduled A Veteran’s Musical Tribute for Tuesday, November 15 at 6 p.m. Snow may have canceled the first one, but the weather is looking better for the new date!
It will be held at the South Tahoe High Blue Gym and it is free admission.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Once again, Toys for Tots is collecting toys and names of children who need them in South Lake Tahoe.
There are drop boxes at hardware stores, banks, fire stations, and Blue Zone Sports.
Stuff-a-Truck with toys will be in the TJMaxx/Blue Zone parking lot in South Lake Tahoe on November 19 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be a fire truck for ids, magic kits for anyone who wants them, treats, swag, and raffle prizes from local donors.

The City of South Lake Tahoe, In partnership with the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, is holding the two-night event that will feature music, singing, dancing, sleigh rides, the Christmas Fire Truck, light displays, local vendors, food and drink, tours of the museum and cabin, and of course, Santa!
Bread & Broth holds successful Cram-a-Hearse

Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) held a Cram-A-Hearse event in front of the Grocery Outlet just before Halloween. They typically stuff a police cruiser with food, but because a local volunteer owns a hearse and it was almost Halloween - why not change the vehicle?
It was so fun and every child that came by received an ice cream, a bag of candy, and a stuffed animal, all from Peter Spellman, the owner of the hearse.

Between 1.6 and 2.8 million youth run away annually, and approximately 4.2 million young adults experience some form of homelessness each year. If all of these young people lived in one city, it would be the fifth largest city in the United States.
Improvements at Soroptimist Stadium: Home of Girls Softball

The field now has a new yellow fence cap lining the perimeter of the outfield fence thanks to volunteers from SISLT and the South Tahoe Adult Softball League. The fence cap is a necessary safety feature to increase perimeter visibility and cover the jagged fencing edges to prevent injuries as players reach for the ball.

When the Barton Festival of Trees and Lights was canceled after the pandemic, South Tahoe High School (STHS) stepped up to provide the event with family-friendly holiday events and activities
This year's Winter Festival will be held on Friday and Saturday, December 2 and December 3. All of the events will be held on the STHS campus in South Lake Tahoe.
Sell out crowd at Bally's enjoys Tahoe Arts Project's Dancing With The Tahoe Stars

Local celebrities were paired with professional dancers who vied for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy. Dancers from The Studio and South Tahoe High Dance Team also performed.
This year's performance has two Masters of Ceremonies - Bridey Heidel and Sebastiani Romagnolo. In true MC fashion, they went through several costume changes while entertaining the sold out crowd.

South Tahoe Swim Team needs community support as they "go local"

A shift in leadership/ownership brings this longtime competitive and successful swim program home again. The coaching team remains the same and interested all swimmers are encouraged to try out. This is a year-round club that meets on weekday afternoons at the South Tahoe Recreation Center Pool, their home for decades.

The sold-out event was hosted by both Lucky Beaver Reno and Lucky Beaver Tahoe locations and it took place at the Lakeridge Golf Course. This was not an ordinary golf tournament. Golf ball cannons, water cannons, and a chance to win a $250k Malibu boat from West Coast Boat Center, as well as $10,000 in cash made the day super exciting according to multiple teams who participated.
City Council candidates answer STHS students' questions on education and transportation

More than anything, people living with disabilities want to be treated like everyone else. They want to show they have value and to give back to the community through service. Aktion Club empowers members to be themselves, work together with friends and implement plans through action.

The Lake Tahoe Lakers will be back in action this Friday night as they take on the Fresno Monsters on "First Responders Night" at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.
Head on down, take in the action, and help them honor those who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.
All first responders are invited to go enjoy a complimentary pass to the October 21 game as their way to say "Thank You."
The action starts at 7:30 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - We've all heard of "Pay It Forward" and now it's time once again for a fun twist. Enchanted Florist of South Lake Tahoe will be handing out hundreds of flowers to busy locals to help brighten up their weekend on Friday, October 28 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Due to the length of the questions and answers (there are seven of them) they will be split up over the next few days.

Blue Dog Pizza at Midtown is located at the intersection of Sierra Blvd., and Lake Tahoe Blvd. The art represents the feelings of rebirth, new beginnings, and second chances that many felt following the Caldor Fire.
