INCLINE VILLAGE, NEV. – Thanks to the generosity of its donors, Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation is celebrating a massive milestone in its history by granting more than $100 million since it was founded in 1996.

“Our donors are making a significant impact,” said CEO Claudia Andersen. “Together we have helped to feed and support those in need, we’ve protected our forests and lake, brought joy to our lives through arts and culture, and we have provided educational opportunities to our children and youth.”

El Dorado Community Foundation offers Building a Better Nonprofit series

Last year, the El Dorado Community Foundation brought the Building a Better Nonprofit Beginner series to local area nonprofits to help to elevate them to the next level of excellence through educational classes on topics critical to nonprofit success.

This year they are taking things a step further with the Building a Better Nonprofit Master Series, where they are bringing in outside experts to teach advanced-level classes for Nonprofit Governance, Nonprofit Marketing, and Nonprofit Finance.

Bread & Broth 4 Kids receives generous donation from Guild Mortgage

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Guild Mortgage of South Lake Tahoe presented Bread & Broth 4 Kids this week with a check for $3,750.

The funds represent a company-wide effort through the Guild Giving Foundation that matches employee donations two to one in its more than 350 branches. The South Lake Tahoe Guild Mortgage has joined other offices that support food bank charities in the communities they work.

Flatstick Pub teams up the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe all month

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — South Lake Tahoe’s first indoor mini golf course, Flatstick Pub, also known as Tipsy Putt, will be teaming up with the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe to give back to South Lake Tahoe’s environment and community. Each Sunday in February, Flatstick Pub will donate $1 for every
beer and $1 for every round of mini golf purchased.

Fundraiser to help with arrangements in bringing Kyle Smaine home to South Lake Tahoe

On January 29, 2023, Kyle Smaine, beloved husband, son, brother, and friend was unfortunately killed in an avalanche while on a ski trip in Japan. Kyle was a pro skier, talented cyclist, passionate adventurer, and an even more incredible human. The many communities he touched have shown an outpouring of love and respectful words for Kyle, and the family and friends are so grateful.

Family's donation brings new K-9 officer Bubba to Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - In memory of their son, Scott and Laure Slothower made a generous donation to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) for a new K-9 officer.

Thanks to that generous donation, K-9 officer, Bubba is now a member of the DCSO team. Bubba had a welcoming ceremony on Tuesday.

Tahoe Arts Project presents Puppet Art Theater Company

The Tahoe Arts Project is bringing the Puppet Art Theater to South Lake Tahoe in February. Under the artistic direction of Art Grueneberger, the theater company tours theaters, festivals, and public events all over California.

The public performance will be the Three Little Pigs on February 10 at 6 p.m. in Lake Tahoe Community College's Duke Theater. It is free entry but donations are accepted.

Tree Ring Project unveiled in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first of six history tree rings was unveiled at South Lake Tahoe City Hall on Tuesday. The tree was estimated to be alive from 1844 to 2017, so dates important in the history of the area are identified on the rings of the tree. It is hanging on the wall in the lobby of the Lake Tahoe Airport for all to experience.

The Tree Ring Project is a joint effort between the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, Kenny Curtzwiler from K&K Services, the Lake Tahoe Historical Society, and the City of South Lake Tahoe.

Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is expanding its Pet Pantry program to all of Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE and TRUCKEE, Calif. — The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is expanding its “Pet Pantry” program, which helps owners keep their pets despite financial hardships or other barriers. HSTT launched the program during the recession of 2010, offering Truckee residents free pet food and supplies to maintain their pet’s care. When the South Lake Tahoe office opened in 2019, the agency expanded the program to that area.

Now, every Lake Tahoe resident is eligible.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Despite Mother Nature bringing an additional foot of fresh snow to the Lake Tahoe area on Monday, January 16, Bread & Broth still served a hot meal to the 41 dinner guests who braved the cold and the snowy roads. Due to the road conditions and blocked driveways, only a few cooks could get to St. Theresa’s Grace Hall, so hot pizza from Pizza Hut, a green salad, and broccoli were served in lieu of the planned menu.

Barton Health nurse Maggie Vieira recognized with The Daisy Award

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Margaret "Maggie" Vieira, registered nurse (RN) with Barton’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has been selected as a recipient of The DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses. The award is in recognition of the clinical skill and compassionate care nurses provide to create a superior experience for patients and their families.

Vieira was nominated by William McPhatter III, RN and colleague of Vieira who told the story that inspired his nomination.

American Legion Auxiliary Post 795 donates to the STHS Food Pantry

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - American Legion Post 795'recently made a food donation to the South Tahoe High School Food Pantry.

In the photo above, American Legion Post 795 Auxiliary Secretary Sandy McKnight and Rob Canny of South Tahoe High School and part-time bartender at Post 795, joined forces this past fall.

Rob had informed the Auxiliary of food-insecure students at the high school. Since then, four carloads of food have been gathered by the Auxiliary and delivered by Rob for STHS. The Auxiliary also supports the Food Pantry at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Mayor Creegan declares January 20 Miss Marcia Day in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan declared today, January 20, as Miss Marcia Day in honor of Marcia Sarosik, founder of Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars.

Marcia was dedicated to the youth of South Lake Tahoe for decades and represented the spirit of the South Lake Tahoe community. The mayor said it was essential for the City to commemorate her life on what would have been her 67th birthday.

Free tax return preparation in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation is bringing free tax return preparation to the South Lake Tahoe community starting February 23. Volunteers will be at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The preparers will be there Each Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. starting February 23, and Saturdays starting February 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m

Free fun days planned at Tube Tahoe for special needs families

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Tube Tahoe is hosting days on the snow this winter for families with special needs children. On January 22, February 12, and March 19, Tube Tahoe will have two specially designed lanes set up.

The locally owned tubing hill in Meyers is located at 3021 US-50.

From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the families can enjoy time on tubes, for free.

El Dorado County Child Abuse Prevention Council hosts listening session in South Lake Tahoe

Take Care Tahoe’s Adopt-A-Hydrant campaign promotes fire safety during major snowstorms

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - As a parade of winter storms continues to batter the Tahoe region, Take Care Tahoe and local fire departments are promoting a campaign to encourage community members to keep fire hydrants clear of snow and debris in an effort to help fire personnel should an emergency occur.

With over 4,000 fire hydrants in the Tahoe Basin, Take Care Tahoe asks community members to Adopt-A-Hydrant in their neighborhood by clearing a three-foot radius on every side of the hydrant and to the road’s edge every time it snows.

Carson Valley Medical Center announces winner of DAISY award

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. - Rebecca Robidart, RN has received the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award for Extraordinary Nursing at Carson Valley Medical Center (CVMC).

Rebecca, a five-year nursing veteran, was nominated by a grateful patient who says, “She is the sweetest, most caring nurse I have ever dealt with.”

LTCC marks passing of longtime Board of Trustee Dr. Frederick “Fritz” Wenck

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Longtime local dentist and a member of the first Lake Tahoe Community College Board of Trustees Dr. Frederick “Fritz” Wenck passed away on January 5, 2023, after a period of declining health in recent months.

Lake Tahoe Community College staff, faculty, board members, and administrators join the Wenck family in mourning the passing of Dr. Wenck who served LTCC for 42 years.

Christmas Cheer and Sierra-at-Tahoe staff helped by generosity from locals and Reno Toy Run

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the past 25 years, hundreds of Northern Nevada families have had a special Christmas thanks to the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs (COC) Toy Run.

The Reno Toy Run raised over $100,000 in 2022 and organizers were able to give $4.000 to Christmas Cheer, the only California-based group to receive a check. The Brotherhood Motorcycle Club is a COC member and presented the check to Christmas Cheer in South Lake Tahoe. Christmas Cheer had fourteen volunteers on-site daily to help take care of local families.

Kudos: Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority says "Thank You" for donations to Christmas Cheer

At a recent "Give Back" gathering at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, the South Shore sales community and area businesses gave generously to benefit locals in need. Lake Tahoe Visitor's Authority (LTVA) staff delivered over 100 toys and multiple bags of food to Christmas Cheer, along with $375 in cash and $200 in gift cards for their annual Christmas distribution.

These donations will make a difference in the lives of many and bring some holiday cheer to those less fortunate in our community.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe would like to thank the community for supporting our Joyous Holiday Auction. Through this fundraiser, our club was able to raise money to support programs that enhance the lives of children and adults in our community.
